Laboratory Specialist
The Division of Infectious Diseases, Pitt Men's Health Study is recruiting a processing lab research technician. The incumbent will be expected to conduct complex laboratory procedures and a variety of routine to complex scientific tasks. This will include daily high-volume specimen processing and data collection, as well as equipment maintenance and set up. This position ensures adherence to all established protocols and regulatory practices associated with the local laboratory and national research project.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to daily sample processing, efficient sample cryostorage, and assisting in freezer maintenance. In addition, incumbent will assist in data import of specimen information into local databases and will assist in finding and pulling archived samples for collaborating research studies. Ability to practice safe and efficient laboratory skills such as aseptic technique and pipetting is necessary.
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
This position requires a high level of mobility, manual dexterity, logistical/organizational planning, visual acuity, and basic computer skills.
This position requires that the applicant travel between laboratories, campus buildings, and to sit or stand at a laboratory bench for extended periods of time.
