Job Description:


Paint Department Team Lead

Provide frontline floor leadership to the assembly operation. The line lead is responsible for delivering operational targets and leading an engaged production team. Responsible for driving safety, quality, associate development, team engagement and first line associate support. Also responsible for identifying any risks to safety, quality, and production losses. The Line Assembly Lead must also coordinate resource requirements, effectively communicate priorities, and escalate issues within their area.

Job Responsibilities:

25% of the time you will be responsible for managing the production line. This will include the following:

  • Interpreting the production schedule and communicating with the Production Manager daily.
  • Ensuring that components are available, cut and staged in the proper order to run down the production line in the most efficient manner that meets our customers’ requirements.
  • Understand the expected production rate and report to superiors when the line is not producing as expected.
  • Work to cross-train employees on the line to ensure there are back-ups for employees who are absent or on vacation.
  • Coordinate with upstream and downstream activities.
  • Ensure that daily operator PMs are being performed.

50% of the time you will be working on the line to assist in bottleneck areas and to keep the balance of the line, and to substitute for employees on vacation or who are ill/out.

15% of the time, you will input data into ERP and review production paperwork. Analyze information and follow-up on errors, exceptions, and opportunities. Identify, coordinate, and implement opportunities for improvement and accountability in these information flow processes.

10% of the time you will be ensuring compliance with established standards and execution of procedures involving employee safety, housekeeping, and other plant programs; Use standardized work audit sheets to do daily checks of team members to make sure all associates are following standardized work to surface and fix problems.

Job Requirement:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in woodworking, painting, or manufacturing preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in millwork, with specific expertise in finishing and painting wood products.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a production or shop environment.
  • 3 years of experience within a manufacturing operation.
  • Math and Measurements: Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimal equivalents. Able to use and read a tape measure to 1/32” tolerance, use combination squares to measure angles to +/- 1 degree use and read a micrometer, caliper, and interpret blueprints and instructional drawing.
  • Deep understanding of millwork processes, especially surface preparation, priming, staining, and painting techniques.
  • Familiarity with various paint types, finishes, and application methods (e.g., spray booths, hand finishing).
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and finish schedules.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to manage and motivate a team.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.
  • Basic computer proficiency for scheduling, inventory tracking, and reporting.
  • Lead and supervise the paint department team within the millwork shop.
  • Coordinate daily tasks, ensuring timely completion of finishing work to meet production schedules.
  • Maintain high standards of quality control for all painted and finished products.
  • Train team members on proper painting techniques, safety protocols, and equipment use.
  • Monitor inventory of paints, stains, and finishing supplies; coordinate with purchasing as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including proper ventilation and handling of hazardous materials.
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., fabrication, assembly, logistics) to ensure smooth workflow and project delivery.
  • Willing to learn Lean Manufacturing: One-piece continuous flow, elimination of wasteful steps, 5S, & Kanban.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to push, pull, lift at least 50lbs. Kneel, crouch, stoop, reach above and below shoulders. Ability to use hands and fingers to grasp, twist, and pull. Climb ladder and work above ground.
