DHL Legal Services offers all business partners worldwide solution-oriented legal advice. We provide comprehensive support in contracts, negotiations, and processes with customers and suppliers as well as in general litigation and commercial law matters. 

In a matrix organization, Legal Services is organized on the one hand according to regions and on the other hand according to global cross-sectional topics. 

Job Purpose: 

As Senior Legal Counsel, you will play a critical role in negotiating complex contracts and advising business units across your designated region, sub-region, country, or cluster of countries. You will define and implement legal strategies to mitigate risks and support the achievement of business objectives, while fostering best-in-class legal processes and practices.

Your tasks: 

  • Provide strategic legal advice to business leaders on operational and contractual risks within your area of responsibility.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and trusted partner to one or more DHL business units, delivering comprehensive legal support.
  • Draft, review, and approve contracts, agreements, and legal documents related to trade, commercial, financial, and operational matters (e.g., leases, purchase agreements, acquisitions, divestitures, employment contracts).
  • Advise on legal trends and emerging areas of law impacting the business.
  • Design and implement legal risk mitigation strategies.
  • Manage internal and external legal spend in collaboration with your supervisor.
  • Contribute to budget planning and ensure efficient use of legal resources.
  • Represent the organization’s legal interests in customer, vendor, and third-party negotiations.
  • Support litigation and claims management within your region, ensuring the company’s legal interests are well protected.
  • Explore and leverage legal technology to enhance service delivery.

Your profile: 

  • Master’s degree in Law (Belgium) with professional legal qualifications
  • Flexible experience—3 years, 10+ years, or anywhere in between; if this role excites you, we want to hear from you
  • Fluent in English and Dutch; basic French is expected.
  • Strong commercial law knowledge with experience managing complex contracts and legal risks
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Sociable, collaborative, and comfortable working closely with business teams
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
