Position: Postdoctoral Research Associate
Description:
The Sharmin and Bijan Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Iran and Persian Gulf Studies at Princeton University invites applications for the positions of postdoctoral research associate (PDRA) or associate research scholar (ARS) in the relevant fields of Iran and the Persian Gulf in the 19th - 21st century. Anticipated to start in September 2026, the position is open to scholars of all academic disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. The Term of Appointment is based on rank: the PDRA position is for one year with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance and continued funding; those hired as an ARS have a three-year appointment. The center promotes interdisciplinary approaches to advancing the study of Iran and the Persian Gulf, with special attention to the region's role and significance in the contemporary world. The goal of the program is to support outstanding scholars of Iran and the wider Persianate world at an early stage of their careers and thus to strengthen the field of Iranian and Persian Gulf Studies in the United States and abroad. In addition to their salary, researchers receive funding (up to $4,000 per academic year) for research related expenses (books, conferences, travel expenses, etc.). The center provides office space and staff support as well as a taxable moving allowance to help defray domestic or international moving expenses. The work location for this position is in-person on campus at Princeton University.This offer is contingent upon completion of all requirements for the Ph.D. between 2023 and the start date. If you do not have proof of Ph.D. before your start date, you may be temporarily appointed (for at most one year) as a Senior Research Assistant with a 10% reduction in salary. Upon providing verification that you have completed all requirements for the Ph.D., you would then be promoted in rank and salary. Researchers may not pursue another degree while in this appointment, nor may they hold any other fellowships or visiting positions concurrently. Appointments cannot be deferred to a later term. Expected Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000
The University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, work experience, education/training, key skills, market, collective bargaining agreements as applicable, and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The posted salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate for a full-time position; salaries for part-time positions are pro-rated accordingly.
