Department Overview

The person in this position is responsible for day-to-day management of oncology and infusion pharmacy services at OHSU and partner hospitals. Off site clinics are in scope and are not limited to Knight Cancer CHO clinics. This person supervises staff who are involved in all clinical workflows related to medications throughout the health system (inpatient adult/pediatric, infusion, and clinic services). With guidance from Senior Managers and Directors, this persion develops, enhances, and implements patient care realted clinical services; provides input on formulary decisions; oversees compliance with CPA's/CDTM's; participates in policy revision and development; conducts quality, safety, and process improvement work; and assists with training of staff, residents, interns and students. This person serves as a role model by staffing alonside their employees in order ot maintain content expertise between 0-40% of the time. This position rotates on-call responsibilities.

Function/Duties of Position
  • Pharmacy Practice: Executes all job duties as outlined in the pharmacist position description. On-call responsibilities are also included. 

  • Program Design & Development: Contributes to the developmend and/or redesigns facilities, systems and policies/procedures to support service improvement or expansion. Establishes best practices in service area(s) to improve patient care outcomes and improve electronic health record functionality as needed to enhanced patient care. 

  • Quality and Safety: Continuously monitors and reports quality and safety data for clinical services using metrics focused on patient and external customer satisfaction. Resolves unsafe conditions and inefficient work processes. Practices Performance Excellence (OPEX) for daily management and continuous improvement.

  • Medication Management and Compliance: Assist in the management of drug shortages and high cost medications by providing clinical expertise related to utilization and alternative therapies. Ensurs clinical practice is complaint with appropriate laws, regulations, and organizational policies. 

  • Supervision of Staff: Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and supervises assigned staff. Develops performance standards, conducts performance appraisal (PE), and recommends salary increases consistent with hospital policy and procedures.  

  • Teaching: Oversees the education and training of pharmacy residents, interns, and students. Directs the work of students/residents and monitors and evaluates their performance. This position is expected to participate in education and research related to their service area(s).


Required Qualifications
  • Pharmacy BS or PharmD

  • PGY1 residency or 2 years of relevant experience

  • Proficiency in an area of clinical pharmacy practice

  • Professional communication, written, and verbal

  • Contemporary Practice of Pharmacy

  • Licensed Pharmacist in Oregon

Preferred Qualifications
  • Work history demonstrating involvement in leadership projects
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals

  • Presentations at state or national pharmacy conference

  • Experience precepting and lecturing

  • Board Certification or Fellowhip in area of clinical pharmacy practice


Additional Details

The incumbent will spend a significant amount of time at a computer terminal. The position must deal with situations on a daily basis with a high degree of intensity. In addition, within the health care setting there can be significant lack of control over the work pace, with frequent interruptions (work is often dictated by external factors) that may lead to mental fatigue or stress
