Description:

Perform duties to relieve machining machine operators for breaks. Provide service to correct mechanical break downs in the machining department. Assist the Set-up Team, Tool Room and/or Process Technicians when not relieving for breaks or performing service calls for mechanical break-downs. This job classification is intended to be a pathway for machining production workers to cross train, work and develop skills in the technical job classifications that support production. Employees that complete the training, OJT's and master the skill and ability requirements will be qualified to advance into job openings in Set-up, Tool Room and Process Control.

Requirements:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • All duties and responsibilities of Machine Operator plus the following:
  • Relieve operators for break.
  • Operational knowledge of all machine cells including start-up, product inspection, and operation of peripheral equipment.
  • Assist set-up team during the first and last hour of each shift. This is a time when OJT's (On The Job Training Modules) are being performed and documented.
  • Assist Tool Room and Process Technicians during the first and last hour of each shift. This is a time when OJT's (On The Job Training Modules) are being performed and documented.


Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • All knowledge, skill and ability required for Machine Cell Operator.
  • Safe material handling, machine lock-out/tag-out procedure and understanding of safe and proper use of chains, slings, I-bolts and lifting hooks.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems, and take prescribed corrective action to insure that a quality part is being produced.
  • Ability to train new employees in the machining process.
  • Ability to understand and assist in implementing continuous process improvements.
  • Complete understanding of CNC codes/programs.
  • Understanding of Process Control Plans and PIM book.
  • Knowledge and support of all safety programs.


Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency (HSED or GED).
  • Three years previous machine cell operator experience here at Shiloh Industries.
  • Forklift Truck Certification.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is:

  • Required to stand and walk continuously, bend, use hand or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • Required to handle parts weighing from 5 to 50 pounds.
  • Requires very repetitive upper extremity work in all tasks.
  • Required to frequently bend forward through partial range on CNC machines and through full range during packing of parts.
  • Good vision is required to inspect work.
  • Continuous mental and visual attention to operate machinery involving repetitive or diversified work which requires constant alertness or activity.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works

  • Near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, vibration, and temperature extremes in the plant environment.
  • Noise level ranges from low (office environment) to moderate (general plant environment) to high (near machines).
