Assistant Director, Outside the Classroom Curriculum



The Assistant Director, Outside the Classroom Curriculum (OCC), is a key leadership role within New Student Programs, providing strategic oversight and vision for the OCC and related initiatives. This position is responsible for advancing curriculum development, assessing program impact on student learning, and driving growth of the OCC, particularly within the University’s academic schools.

Reporting to the Director of New Student Programs, the Assistant Director builds strong partnerships with academic departments and campus stakeholders to integrate and expand OCC opportunities within academic settings. This position ensures a seamless student experience by evaluating OCC structure, software, programming, campus visibility, and outcomes. In addition, the role provides direct leadership and guidance to the OCC Student Ambassadors.

The Assistant Director also plays an active role in supporting the full portfolio of New Student Programs, including Panther Connect, Welcome Week, Spring Welcome, and Bridge to Success, ensuring students have meaningful opportunities to connect, engage, and thrive from their first days on campus.

This position is in the office of New Student Programs and reports to the Director.


Job Summary

Manages a program and improves student programs, services, and retention. Performs budgetary and grant functions. Manages daily office operations and operations for select services. Markets programs and services, presents workshops, and develops policies and procedures. Facilitates new student programming.


Essential Functions
  • Researches, plans, coordinates, promotes, implements, evaluates, benchmarks, and improves student programs and services.

  • Develops, plans, monitors, analyzes, and administers budgets and grants.

  • Develops student assessments and retention initiatives.

  • Promotes and markets programs and services.

  • Presents workshops and seminars.

  • Conducts new student recruitment, orientation, testing, admissions, and registration services.

  • Manages daily office operations and operations for select services.

  • Supervises staff, which includes hiring, conducting performance reviews, documenting

    disciplinary actions, and overseeing other human resource administration. Manages work schedules and approves timecards. Provides professional development opportunities. Distributes and reviews work.

  • Develops policies and procedures.

  • Acts as a liaison and provides reporting.


Physical Effort

Position is primarily sedentary with the exception of light event set-up responsibilities. Physical accommodations are available for this responsibility.
