Summary/Objective: The Equipment / Automation Coordination Engineer will work within the Automation Development Group to coordinate with external machine builders for both capacity build and new design and build projects to ensure these projects are completed on schedule, within budget and to Scope. Collaborates with Mechanical, Controls, Vision, Machine Shop, and Process Engineering to ensure all facets of project are accounted for.
Essential Functions/ Responsibilities:
  1. Primary point of contact with all external machine vendors, including answering questions related to component substitution, design/drawing issues, tolerances, etc.
  2. Works with internal Automation, Process Engineering, and Operations teams to develop new machine scopes.
  3. Ensure external vendors have access to and are following all applicable Samtec standards.
  4. Create all RFQs for both capacity build and new design machines as needed.
  5. Coordinate and manage schedule for builds including timing for shipment of consigned parts.
  6. Organize any ongoing meetings needed between external vendors and internal Automation team.
  7. Manage external design reviews as needed for new design projects.
  8. Works with Samtec associates in various global locations to coordinate product materials needed for debug and runoff/qualification.
  9. Develop test plans as needed for FAT at vendor in coordination with Product Engineering and Operations.
  10. Communicate any issues or schedule changes and develop plans to mitigate.
  11. Communicate with global production sites for machine transfers upon FAT completion.
  12. Coordinate qualification plans at receiving site with local engineering teams.
  13. Develop contingency plans or recovery plans as required.
  14. Report on capability, capacity, and OTD for all external machine vendors.

Required Experience:
  1. 5+ years relevant working experience with an Engineering Degree. Experience in some or all of:
    • Automation Machine Design
    • Design for Manufacturing
    • High Speed Assembly Equipment
    • Machine Tools
    • Precision Tooling
    • Industrial Machine Control Systems
  2. Project management.
  3. Solid interpersonal communication skills, a professional demeanour, cooperative personality and a team attitude are all required. Works well with others and interacts effectively and efficiently with internal and external people and groups.
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills
  5. Ability to use SolidWorks and MS Office Suite, SharePoint Document Management and general computer literacy
  6. Extensive cross functional team expertise including technical and non-technical work
  7. Analytical and creative thinker, problem solver, result-orientated and focused
  8. Highly organized, ability to prioritize a varied and fast-changing workload
  9. Motivated, high achiever, persistent and conscientious.
  10. Must be able to sit/stand for at least 90 consecutive minutes, and not suffer from any sensory deprivation and/or paralysis of the limbs.
Education:
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering is preferred.
