Job Description

Position Overview:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the organizations accounting functions and leading the accounting team. This role ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, maintains compliance with accounting standards and internal controls, and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include oversight of accounts payable, corporate cards, employee reimbursements, reconciliations, credit card settlement, capital expenditures, prepaid assets, and applicable tax obligations. The Accounting Manager also develops and guides the accounting team to ensure alignment with the organizations strategic vision and service to its members.

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the Accounting team by offering training, coaching, and development opportunities. Review work completed by accountants and provide constructive feedback to ensure accuracy, efficiency, proper segregation of duties, and adequate cross-training across the team.
  • Drive operational excellence in accounting functions by overseeing accounts payable, corporate cards, reimbursements, reconciliations, credit card settlements, capital expenditures, prepaid assets, and all applicable tax obligations, including sales, property, and personal property taxes. Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting while maintaining compliance with internal controls and accounting standards.
  • Apply continuous improvement practices and leader standard work by streamlining daily accounting tasks, eliminating inefficiencies, and leveraging the organizations technology to optimize team performance. Establish and maintain leader standard work routines to monitor progress, ensure accountability, and make data-driven recommendations for process improvements and workload adjustments.

Other Essential Functions

  • Contribute to organizational and department strategies to move the organization forward.
  • Ensure the Accounting department provides the highest level of member service by coaching team to meet or exceed established service standards with a professional and friendly tone.
  • Contribute as an effective project team member for both departmental and cross-functional projects by completing all tasks and assignments in a timely manner.


Qualifications

Qualifications

Education Bachelors degree in accounting or finance required.

Certifications Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred.

Job Experience Minimum five years experience in accounting or finance position, preferably in a financial institution or public accounting position. Minimum of two years successful supervisory experience and/or demonstrated leadership skills in directing, delegating, facilitating change, problem solving, coaching, and counseling staff.

Software Skills Proficient knowledge of MS Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.

Other Skills Strong interpersonal skills required with the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality in sensitive matters. Ability to adapt to frequent changes and handle/prioritize tasks, competing demands, simultaneous projects etc. in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to clarify and articulate key message points as well as voice and defend opinions.

Physical Demands Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 10 pounds with accommodations.

Work Conditions Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
