Description:

Port Tampa Bay is looking for a strategic leader to grow our container cargo business. Scope & Purpose:

This is a highly responsible position, reporting to the Sr. Vice President of Marketing & Business Development, with a focus on business development activities for PTB under the direction of senior management for the purpose of developing new cargo opportunities while maintaining the port's existing cargo base; and representing Port Tampa Bay locally, regionally and internationally to maritime and international trade industries.


This employee will lead the strategic growth of the port's container business. They are responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and executing a Sales plan to promote PTB, and strategic partners' services, to attract new business and maintain current business.


Essential Functions & Duties:

  • Develop and implement strategic business development and Sales plans for container cargo sector;
  • Identify new market opportunities and emerging trends in the global cargo trade, especially within the targeted cargo sectors;
  • Create and execute long-term growth strategies in line with the port's overall objectives;
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with shipping lines, beneficial cargo owners, vehicle processors, freight forwarders, terminal operators, and logistics providers;
  • Act as the primary commercial liaison for existing and prospective clients;
  • Represents Port Tampa Bay at industry events, conferences, and trade shows deemed important and in line with Business Development's goals and objectives;
  • Work with internal marketing teams to develop outreach campaigns and promotional materials;
  • Provide input on facility upgrades, berth availability, and equipment needs to support cargo growth;
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior leadership;
  • Contribute to revenue forecasting and budgeting for the targeted business lines;
  • Participates with the Executive staff to organize the port' s future development planning to accommodate anticipated trends in domestic and international trade, including accommodation to advances in shipping technology; evaluates periodic research data that deals with the expansion of the port and coordinates port development initiatives with Executive;
  • Administrative responsibility for implementing the Port's container cargo Sales efforts; prepares an annual operating budget and speaks at various trade association and maritime industry meetings to foster the image of the Port Tampa Bay; and performs other work as required.



Requirements:

Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • A strong background in maritime commerce, logistics, and a proven track record of cultivating long-term partnerships in the shipping industry;
  • Considerable knowledge of economics, domestic and international shipping trade, financial management, geography and traffic methods;
  • Strong understanding of the U.S. port system, international trade, and supply chain logistics;
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills;
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed;
  • Considerable skill in the preparation of effective sales and marketing plans;
  • Considerable skill in dealing directly and persuasively with potential shippers, businesses and maritime industries to convince them of the advantages of locating or bringing their business to Port Tampa Bay;
  • Considerable ability to perform professional work on economic, trade development, sales/marketing and trade/port facility development problems;


Minimum Training & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor' s Degree in Business Administration or a related field (with significant exposure to economic analysis and trade development) ;
  • Minimum of ten years' professional experience in container liner sales, port sales, economic analysis and/or trade development administration; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Special Requirements:

  • Incumbent must possess a current and valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operator's License or capable of obtaining one within thirty days from the date of hire.
  • Must successfully pass a seaport security background check and compliance for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Proficient in Spanish as second language is desirable.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.


Travel

Domestic and International travel is required for this position and overnight travel is expected.
