POSITION DETAILS

Part-time with benefits; 48 hours or more per two week pay period; actual hours worked will be primarily day shift but will be dependent on surgery and clinic schedules for start and end times; paid on call rotation is required.  Pay and benefits package is competitive with actual hourly rate dependent on experience.

JOB SUMMARY

The Advanced Practice Provider will assess, diagnose, treat and/or refer patients in accordance with medical protocols on file in Specialty Services and the appropriate Wisconsin Statutes and Federal Regulations.  The Advanced Practice Provider will function independently with collaboration of the supervisory physician.   

MAJOR JOB FUNCTION

  1. Performs initial and follow-up evaluations and examinations and records findings.  Obtains complete medical history data on patients.  Reviews patient records and dictates articulate and concise information for the physician and the medical record.
  2. Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  3. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  4. Administers injections, medications; performs minor procedures such as joint injection, aspiration, removal and application of casts and splints in the clinic and operating room.
  5. Orders prescription medications as needed.
  6. Educates patients with surgical process and writes pre-operative orders on surgical patients.
  7. Assists surgeons with surgical procedures in the Operating Room.
  8. Sees patient in follow-up post-op visit without physician directly present and generates a continuing treatment plan.
  9. Interpret x-rays, CT scans, MRI’s with support from physicians as needed and discuss finding with patients, therapist and staff.
  10. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.  Provides patient education.
  11. Performs hospital rounds with or without physician on an as needed basis.  Writes chart notes in hospital record.
  12. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
  13. Consults and collaborates with other professionals; makes referrals when appropriate.
  14. Functions as a resource person in health matters.
  15. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional certification and affiliations.
  16. Maintains excellent personal relations and communication with all members of the clinic and hospital staff.
  17. Demonstrates proficiency in regards to the computer documentation of patient cares and any other related computerized patient information/documentation.
  18. Performs related work as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Minimum Education requirements: Master’s degree in nursing AND Current licensure as APNP and RN in State of WI -OR- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program, with current State of WI and National Certification (NCCPA).
  2. DEA Certification.
  3. Current certification in BLS and AC LS, ANA and/or AANP required.
  4. 3 years of professional nursing, general medicine, family practice, or orthopedics is desired but not required.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  2. Excellent human relation skills as demonstrated by the ability to interface positively with all customers and employees.
  3. Must acquire the knowledge and maintain established competency levels to perform essential professional practice.
  4. Must have proficient computer skills with the ability to operate within a Windows environment.
  5. Must have the ability to work with frequent interruptions, under stress, with minimal supervision, and to exercise initiative and judgment in analyzing, organizing, planning, prioritizing, scheduling and coordinating work with others.
  6. Needs to possess as high level of intelligence, integrity, sense of responsibility and ability to comprehend and analyze details.
  7. Knowledge of theory, principles, techniques and practice of scientific principles and research; of preparation, administration, and actions of medications; of treatments and medical procedures; of counseling and teaching techniques; of medical equipment as it relates to patient care.
  8. Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
  9. Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for adult through geriatric patients.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, and talk and hear. 
  2. The Advanced Practice Provider is frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.  The Advanced Practice Provider is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
  3. The Advanced Practice Provider must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  4. Good hearing is necessary to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound.
  5. Visual acuity is needed to assess color changes, to verify accuracy of written materials.
  6. Computer/keyboard skills required.  Must have the ability to operate in a Windows environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as infectious/communicable diseases, noise, blood and bloodborne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases, dusts, and physical injury/verbal abuse from an out-of-control patient.  Frequent exposure to distressed patients, families or visitors.  Must be able to function effectively under stressful situations.
