Leidos’ Defense Systems is seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer for its Hypersonics line of business. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions. The selected candidate will support the Thermal Protection System (TPS) of the Common Hypersonic Glide Body program (CHGB). The CHGB is the Army’s #1 priority for strategic weapons capability for long-range precision fires and will counter and gain a lead on our adversaries' technological advances in this field, come join us in this exciting, cutting-edge field. This role will provide design support for creating test hardware and integration tools in support of the production of these critical components. Work may also include design support of the Technical Data Package (TDP) critical to the design and production of the system.

Primary Responsibilities. 

  • Design and drawing creation of production tooling and supporting equipment.
  • Creating technical data package artifacts (drawings and documents).
  • Creating of Bill of Materials.
  • Implementation of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing in accordance with ASME standards.
  • Supporting production activity issue resolution.

Basic Qualifications. 

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 5+ years of experience or a Masters’ Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 3+ years of experience from an ABET accredited school
  • Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, Catia, AutoCAD).
  • Provides engineering solutions of design and production activities to the Responsible Engineer.
  • Ability to work tasks with limited direction, as well as provide clarification and instruction to junior employees
  • Uses engineering specifications and drawing structure to complete drawing and model modifications.
  • Willingness to host and lead meetings with internal and external parties, such as design reviews, peer reviews, and table top reviews.
  • Implements typical GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2009) methods and tolerance stack-ups on parts and assemblies.
  • Works within integrated and multifunctional teams supporting drawing modification and production activities.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow within the organization.
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications.

  • Prior work in DoD Missile, Reentry Vehicle, or Hypersonics fields.
  • Prior experience in tooling and production environments.
  • Prior work creating engineering drawings using Solidworks and Windchill.
  • Understanding of cost and schedule implications of typical engineering deliverables.
  • Experience working rapidly changing development programs.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $85,150.00 - $153,925.00
