Position Summary: 

We are seeking an experienced Staff Systems Engineer to be part of a highly skilled and tightly knit team responsible for Comtech’s legacy Short Message Service Center (SMSC) and containerized SMSC (cSMSC) products. The successful SA candidate will provide product guidance, oversight, and engineering support for the SMSC, which provides premier messaging solutions for major carrier mobile subscribers. 

This individual will also provide technical guidance and assist in writing requirements for the SMSC’s cloud-based containerized solution, created by Comtech’s onshore and offshore cSMSC engineering team.

Responsibilities: 

  • Analyze customer requirements, propose, and design appropriate technical solutions within the existing and new product feature sets to address immediate challenges for customers.
  • Provide pre-sales engineering support to Sales and Product Management.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) technical support to customer and internal stakeholders.
  • Balance responsiveness with protecting Comtech Intellectual Property (IP) when providing subject matter expertise and technical consultation to customers.
  • Research and defend Comtech IP rights when necessary.
  • Provide implementation guidance and support to product development.
  • Complete Request for Information (RFI)/Request for Proposal (RFP) responses including detailed compliance matrices.
  • Provide existing product roadmap features based on understanding of customer networks and technical direction of the messaging marketplace.
  • Develop new feature concepts and product solutions.
  • Create and present technical solutions to prospective customers.
  • Support competitive analysis to determine feature parity with competing messaging products.
  • Create technical input for business cases. 

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of solution architecture, system engineering, software design, requirements definition or directly related experience required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of architectures pertaining to 3GPP/LTE applications; Demonstrated and significant knowledge of telecommunications and messaging protocols and interfaces including TCP/IP, SIP, LDAP, PSQL, SQL, SS7, 3GPP2, 3GPP, SMPP, Diameter, other M2M protocols.
  • Understand the transition from 3G to 4G and then 5G messaging solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing high-capacity, high performance transactional systems important.
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated experience with direct customer interaction essential.
  • Candidate must be professional, detail-oriented, possess strong analytical skills, be a self-starter requiring little direction.
  • Candidate is expected to function as a leader the SMSC development team, and a key member of the Location and Messaging engineering team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to create processes in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including customer interactions and technical sections in Commercial RFPs.
  • Experience with containerized network functions, cloud computing and in-memory databases important.           

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems engineering, electrical engineering, or related disciplines.
