Job Summary:

Provide psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations, for patients referred from LMG outpatient clinics who have psychiatric or behavioral health comorbidities. 

 

The Psychiatrist will conduct an examination and order relevant laboratory studies to help determine a diagnosis and then make treatment recommendations to the patient and primary care provider. The treatment recommendations might include biological as well as psychotherapeutic modalities and will also include a recommendation for an appropriate setting for the delivery of this care. 

 

When appropriate, the Psychiatrist will initiate treatment and continue to monitor the patient’s progress until stabilization.  Once stabilized the patient may continue to follow-up with the Psychiatrist or may be referred to the referring provider. The Psychiatrist will work in collaboration with multidisciplinary health care teams to ensure high quality patient care.  The Psychiatrist will provide support and educational training for physicians and non-physician staff in providing care for complex psychiatric patients and their families. 

 

The Psychiatrist remains responsible for the patient throughout the course of the treatment and will determine when the patient will be released from care.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

Graduate of four-year accredited U.S. Medical School or equivalent.  Completion of a four-year residency in Psychiatry.

 

Licensure/Certification:

Board eligible/certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  License to practice Medicine in the State of Oregon.  Licensed, or eligible to become licensed, in Washington within 180 days of hire.  Active member, in good standing, of all Legacy Hospital’s medical staffs.  If Board Eligible, must become Board Certified within five years of hire and must maintain current certification. 

 

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and recommendations for psychiatrically complex patients.
  2. Initiate and/or recommends appropriate treatment that may include medications and/or other forms of related therapeutic treatment or procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.
  3. Consult with other providers regarding patient care plans and treatment.
  4. Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary health care teams to ensure high quality patient care.
  5. Participate in patient care conferences.
  6. Order appropriate laboratory studies and collaborate with the referring provider regarding appropriate response to abnormal findings.
  7. Comply with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiate and maintain required records and legal documents.
  8. Determine when the patient has recovered from the disorder and/or would benefit from treatment at another level of care and/or setting.

ADHERENCE TO POLICIES AND PROCEDURES:

Conforms to Legacy’s rules, regulations, and policies.

Meets the requirements for active staff membership on Legacy’s medical staff.

 

MEDICAL RECORDS:

Prepares all appropriate medical records promptly and acceptably in content and quality.
