JOB TITLE: Chief Pilot
DEPARTMENT: Flight Operations
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
FLSA: Exempt
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced pilot to join our dynamic team as the Chief Pilot. As the Chief Pilot, you will work closely with the Director of Operations and other aviation personnel to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our fleet. You will play a crucial role in maintaining our high standards of safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
This position may require frequent travel and irregular hours, including weekends and holidays.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assist the Director of Operations / Vice President of Flight Operations to ensure a safe, cost-effective, and reliable operation in accordance with established company policies, the Federal Aviation Regulations, and consistent with customer expectations. Serve as Assistant Director of Operations, as delegated, fulfilling requirements of the Surf Flight Operations Manual 1.1.1, FAR 119.65, and FAR 119.69.
1. Operational Oversight: Oversee all flight operations, including scheduling, and crew assignments to ensure adherence to safety regulations and company policies. Serve as manual owner of the Flight operations Manual (FOM).
2. Safety Compliance: Ensure that all flight operations comply with relevant aviation regulations and safety standards. Conduct safety briefings and support the Aviation Safety Manager to investigate incidents as necessary.
3. Crew Training and Development: In conjunction with the Director of Training and Standards, assist in developing and implementing training programs for flight crews, ensuring that all pilots receive the necessary training and maintain required certifications.
4. Crew Management: Oversee the Regional Chief Pilots and Assistant Chief Pilots in supporting the pilot team by developing and implementing company and departmental policy.
5. Flight Planning: Participate in flight planning processes, including route selection, weather analysis, and fuel planning, to optimize efficiency and safety.
6. Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to emergency situations and serve as key company personnel as part of the Emergency Response Plan.
7. Records and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of flight operations, crew certifications, and aircraft maintenance, and ensure all required documentation is up to date.
8. Communication: Foster effective communication between flight crews, ground personnel, and other relevant departments to ensure smooth operations.
9. Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for operational improvement and efficiency gains, and work with the Director of Operations to implement changes.
10. Regulatory Compliance: Stay up to date with aviation regulations and industry trends and ensure that the company remains in compliance with all relevant requirements.
Minimum Qualifications: The Chief Pilot will be qualified through training, experience, and expertise and, to the extent of his responsibilities, have a full understanding of the operation with respect to:
* Aviation standards
* Safe operating practices
* 14 CFR Chapter 1
* Operations specifications
* All appropriate maintenance and airworthiness requirements from 14 CFR Parts 1, 21, 23, 25, 43, 45, 47, 65, 91 and 135
Position Requirements:
* Minimum of three years as PIC of an aircraft operated under 14 CFR Part 135.
* FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with appropriate type ratings.
* Previous leadership or management experience in aviation.
* Strong knowledge of aviation regulations, safety standards, and best practices.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; exceptional problem solving and decision marking abilities.
* Proficiency in aviation software and technology.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Previous experience as a chief pilot, assistant or regional chief pilot, instructor, and/or check pilot
* Previous experience as a PIC in the C208 Caravan
* Highly knowledgeable of the Operations Manual, FAA Regulations, Operations Specifications, flight manuals, etc., and other instructions pertinent to duties.

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

• Ability to work within a 24/7 operation including holidays.
• Ability to pass 10-year background check and pre-employment drug screen as required by company and/or airline regulations.
• Authorized to work in the U.S. per the Immigration Act of 1986.
