We are currently in search of a geotechnical engineering industry leader to join our team. The ideal candidate for the Principal, Geotechnical Engineer position will have extensive consulting experience and client relationships, ready to offer leadership, strategic guidance, and inventive technical support to our Pacific Northwest offices. The ideal candidate will be a driven, adept problem solver who is able to oversee the production of precise technical outputs that meet client requirements. This is a prime chance to further your career with a premier national engineering and consulting firm as part of a growing team. This full-time, hybrid position is based in our Portland, OR office.

Job responsibilities include generating and implementing strategic geotechnical engineering consulting initiatives with existing and targeted clients to achieve a goal of at least $1 million in annual net revenue. The candidate will also engage actively in professional organizations relevant to our client base or the local market.

Additionally, business development with both new and existing clients, creating annual client plans, forecasting revenue and profit to aid strategy implementation, and leading client project pursuits should be familiar tasks for the candidate. They will also play a significant role in formulating business strategies in alignment with the company's goals for the West Coast market, including preparing proposals and contracts.

Project delivery responsibilities encompass directing geotechnical consulting projects and maintaining communication as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring safe project execution that aligns with clients' objectives, professional standards, and the company's financial goals. The successful candidate must manage projects effectively to comply with technical, budgetary, and timeline specifications, mentor geotechnical staff and coordinate with various stakeholders.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills andRequirements:

  • A Master’s degree in civil engineering with a concentration in geotechnical engineering.
  • Over 15 years of strategic geotechnical engineering consulting experience in Oregon.
  • At least 5 years in project management roles.
  • Prior managerial experience over a team of staff.
  • Professional engineering licensure (PE) in Oregon.
  • Solid project history and connections with owners and architecture/engineering firms in Oregon.
  • Proven success in achieving a minimum of $1 million in annual net revenue from consulting.
  • A strong background in promoting health and safety practices, cultivating client relationships, and supporting business growth through staff recruitment and mentoring.
  • Competence in planning and executing subsurface investigations, conducting engineering analyses, and preparing contract documents across a diverse range of projects and clients.
  • Capable of thriving in a collaborative, single profit center, team-based environment.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Meticulous organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for business development and office collaboration.
