Academic Schedule:  May - August 2026, full-time, 40 hours per week

 

About the experience:  The Manufacturing Engineering ITT Cannon intern will have the opportunity to work for the founding and most storied aerospace and defense electrical connector manufacturer in North America. They will obtain first- hand experience in the design and validation of electrical connectors used in the harsh environment military and aerospace environment.  The intern will be guided and mentored by experienced design engineers throughout the process, ensuring they have a meaningful and productive experience.



Responsibilities

Participate in all design stages of a specific harsh environment electrical connector development project including:

  • Interpreting customer design input requirements. Including regulatory and environmental constraints in order to develop scope of work and estimate project hours and project schedule
  • Participate in early-stage concept development, including designing and creating preliminary 3D CAD models.
  • Present design concepts to engineering department as part of Preliminary Design Review
  • Perform design changes based on team feedback on selected final design concept.
  • Finalize 3D CAD model and generate 2D CAD drawings of selected design.
  • Work with procurement to select vendors, receive quotations, and procure prototypes of selected design.
  • Create Design Validation Test Plan for selected design
  • Work with ITT Cannon internal engineering lab and possibly external labs to observe testing set up and provide technical assistance as necessary.
  • Interpret design validation test results to determine if design changes are necessary.
  • Work with Engineering Documentation to release final design.
  • The intern will be guided throughout the design project by engineering team members but will be able to be a full participant in the design process.

Qualifications



  • Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering program (BS/MS/PhD), in good standing
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical design principles.
  • Knowledge of metals, plastics, and rubber materials helpful, but not required.
  • Knowledge of designing for CNC machining and injection molding preferred
  • Knowledge/experience in CAD, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must continue enrollment in degree program upon completion of the internship
