Leidos is seeking a talented Industrial Engineer (IE) to join a diverse team that is creating unique manufacturing solutions for our growing Defense Department customers!  Our work today supports the warfighter tomorrow!

This position will support either Electronics Manufacturing Facility to develop, document, and execute manufacturing processes, systems, and procedures that support fabrication, machining, welding, painting, and assembly integration and test. The IE will provide technical expertise to efficiently lay out the manufacturing areas and balance the work content.

The Industrial Engineer will also provide critical input in formulating manufacturing strategies, defining business processes, facility planning, and driving engineering standards throughout the sites. Duties require using the application of Industrial Engineering concepts, techniques, analysis and decision tools under general supervision to promote and implement changes in manufacturing, engineering and service operations. Uses development of models, data bases and spreadsheets to analyze data (e.g., statistics, operations research, engineering economics), and provide summary analysis and metrics for consultation to customers (e.g., management, departments, suppliers). Apply general industrial engineering techniques to identify areas for process improvement as well as supporting process improvement and cost reducing initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform “Top Level/Rough Cut” Capacity Planning and support Make vs. Buy process with capacity analysis.
  • Develop process flows/roadmaps using simulation tools with inputs from the Manufacturing Team (Production, Manufacturing Engineer, Quality, Production Control)
  • Design work center layouts to ensure safety and on-time delivery
  • Improve efficiency of processes by analyzing the Eng Standards vs Actual Run Times.  Identify, prioritize, and implement solutions for process improvement opportunities including application of lean manufacturing principles, process mapping, and root cause analysis
  • Develop and maintain facility layouts in AutoCAD
  • Design production constraint visual controls and metrics that reduce the span time impacts to production
  • Help develop the standard processes and operating procedures for the Industrial Engineering Team to be utilized at all Defense Manufacturing Sector sites.
  • Develop metrics to measure plant and equipment capability output and identify equipment and process flow bottlenecks
  • Conduct machine capacity analyses to improve machining efficiency (Tooling & Equipment Utilizations)
  • Using standard industrial engineering tools, provide data to support and participate in Lean Improvement Events, Kaizan Blitz, Kaizan, workshops, etc.
  • Work with quality engineering and production team to initiate corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Analyze existing systems and processes and identify value-added and non-value-added activities to solve manufacturing challenges, which include supporting manufacturing growth while consolidating core competencies into common manufacturing facilities.
  • Assist the site manufacturing teams with the development, justification, and execution of long-range plans to meet corporate objectives. This will include production launch activities, plant layouts, and engineering change control activities.
  • Assist in evaluation of capacity planning for fabrication, machining, weld, paint, and assembly equipment and processes to ensure ability to meet takt time and customer requirements.
  • Identify, prioritize, and implement solutions for process improvement opportunities including application of lean manufacturing principles, process mapping, root cause analysis, time studies, and problem-solving techniques.
  • Fostering an environment of continuous improvement best practices throughout all the manufacturing sites.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Industrial Engineering or Industrial and Systems Engineering discipline with 0+ years of experience.
  • Must be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Technical experience in the creation of manufacturing strategies including make/buy decisions, equipment requirements, process definition, work area layout, tooling requirements, takt time evaluation, and capacity planning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software and AutoCAD.
  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance OR meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred candidate will have prior experience in capacity planning.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the Lean Six Sigma principles, manufacturing metrics, and continuous improvement.
  • Candidate must have experience in manufacturing engineering functional support teams for Defense, Aerospace, Space or Commercial projects with an understanding of manufacturing engineering and quality requirements for such projects.
  • Familiarity with Deltek Costpoint accounting software is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Solumina MES software is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Windchill PLM software is a plus.
  • Strong personnel, planning, and project management skills

Pay Range:

Pay Range $50,050.00 - $90,475.00
