JOB SUMMARY:
The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and inventory management across the facility. This role ensures materials are available to support production schedules while driving warehouse efficiency, minimizing waste, and maintaining accurate inventory records. The Materials Manager will collaborate closely with Purchasing, Production, Planning, and Warehouse teams to optimize material flow and support operational excellence.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Raw Materials Management
- Ensure timely availability of raw materials to meet production demand.
- Monitor raw material inventory levels and collaborate with Purchasing to maintain optimal safety stock.
- Resolve material shortages or quality issues in coordination with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
WIP & Inventory Control
- Oversee WIP tracking processes to ensure real-time accuracy of material consumption and production staging.
- Ensure accurate and timely opening and closing of all WIP jobs.
- Manage and improve inventory accuracy through process discipline, cycle counts, and reconciliations.
- Establish and enforce FIFO (First In, First Out) or FEFO (First Expired, First Out) where applicable.
Cycle Counts & Physical Inventory
- Develop and execute routine cycle count schedules and annual physical inventories.
- Analyze inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and audit requirements
- Ensure Delegation of Authority policies are effectively utilized.
Warehouse & Material Flow Optimization
- Lead efforts to increase storage efficiency, material handling practices, and space utilization in the warehouse.
- Partner with the Warehouse Supervisor to improve layout, racking, labeling, and replenishment strategies.
- Drive process improvements using Lean principles and 5S methodology.
Systems & Reporting
- Utilize ERP and MRP systems to maintain accurate inventory records and material master data.
- Generate material usage reports, inventory turns, aging analysis, and KPIs for leadership review.
- Support ERP upgrades or enhancements related to materials management.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Production Planning and Scheduling to align material availability with build schedules.
- Support New Product Introductions (NPI) and Engineering Change Orders (ECO) by ensuring proper material setups and transitions.
- Collaborate with Operations, Finance and Quality to support root cause analysis and material-related corrective actions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in materials management or supply chain within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of raw material planning, WIP control, and warehouse operations.
- Proficient in ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, INFOR, or similar).
- Solid understanding of inventory control principles, cycle counting, and physical audits
Certifications & Licenses
- APICS CPIM certification preferred
- Lean or Six Sigma experience in material/warehouse optimization preferred
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of safety standards applicable to the work area and other pertinent rules/regulations governing work standards.
- Knowledge of inventory control and basic accounting principles.
- Knowledge of products.
- Knowledge of computers sufficient to utilize email, spreadsheets, databases, Infor, and other systems as required.
- Knowledge of Bill of Materials (BOM) and ability to determine accuracy as it relates to engineering definition and inventory consumption.
