Position Summary 

This position will support the Engineering Group by performing design work, evaluating and optimizing existing systems, troubleshooting systems, and working closely with fellow site operations personnel. It will also liaise between discipline engineers and the Engineering Supervisor and between Project Managers and Site Managers concerning project scope, budget, scheduling, overall engineering, and design requirements.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assume responsibility for ensuring engineering documents comply with applicable state laws/regulations, including affixing registered engineer seal when required and acting as the Engineer in Responsible Charge.
  • Comply with state requirements for continuing education and maintaining a Professional Engineering license. 
  • Prepare and check moderately complex calculations within the Mechanical Engineering discipline, including pipe/vessel design and pressure relief valve sizing calculations per ASME codes such as B31.3, Section VIII and IX.  
  • Efficiently utilize AutoDesk AutoCAD and Inventor to prepare mechanical engineering drawings in 2D and 3D including but not limited to Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), mechanical fabrication drawings, and room/building layout drawings. 
  • Independently lead design/build projects across all 3 NETL sites.
  • Review interdisciplinary engineering documents and work with other members of the engineering team to resolve any issues.
  • Lead the development of man-hour and material cost estimates for new projects.
  • Assist with training, mentoring/coaching other team members, and conduct training sessions as appropriate.
  • Create productive relationships with organizations within and external to the Engineering Group.

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline or the sciences from a four-year accredited college or university or Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology and a Professional Engineering License.
  • More than 15 years of professional experience or 10 years of professional experience and a master’s degree in an engineering discipline. 
  • Professional Engineering License required. 
  • Must have an advanced level of knowledge within a specific discipline and a strong understanding of the other disciplines. 
  • Good oral and written communication skills, working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications, organizational skills, and the ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.
  • Ability to pass a Fit for Duty employment test to verify the ability to meet the physical and functional demands of the position.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen 
  • Ability to pass a background investigation, including but not limited to a nationwide criminal record search, and other relevant background information deemed necessary by the contract 
  • United States citizenship is required to work on a federal contract and will be electronically verified via E-Verify 

Physical Requirements: 

Most positions involve work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting with occasional use of a computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. 

 

Travel Requirements:

Travel to Pittsburgh, PA, Morgantown, WV, or Albany, OR NETL site may be required. (< 20%)
