Director of Development, Student Affairs
The Division of Philanthropic & Alumni Engagement (PAE) builds meaningful relationships with donors, alumni, and stakeholders to support Pitt’s mission in education, research, and healthcare. As part of PAE’s University Development team, the Director of Development, Student Affairs reports to the Executive Director of Development, Strategic Initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary liaison between PAE and the Division of Student Affairs, aligning fundraising and alumni engagement strategies.
- Develop and execute fundraising plans to support Student Affairs priorities, including major gift cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Maintain direct contact with donors and prospects; engage division leadership, volunteers, and staff in fundraising efforts.
- Partner with the Vice Provost of Student Affairs and other leaders to identify funding needs and craft compelling cases for support.
- Research, write, and oversee proposals, solicitations, and donor communications tailored to Student Affairs initiatives.
- Monitor progress toward development goals and adjust strategies to meet targets.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, development colleagues, and external partners to coordinate donor engagement activities.
- Use Affinaquest and related systems to manage donor records and support reporting needs.
- Perform administrative duties to ensure smooth operations and compliance with university policies.

Job Summary
Oversees development of a program, plans, and activities to create and execute a comprehensive development plan achieving new and recurring contributions to a school, foundation, program, and/or group. Manages a portfolio of major gift donors and strategically builds fundraising prospects. Assists leadership in facilitating a comprehensive communications plan and with development strategies.
Essential Functions
- Represent PAE as a member of the Student Affairs leadership team, and act as the PAE fundraising lead for the Division of Student Affairs and Pitt broadly
- Create and implement fundraising strategies by maintaining personal contact with prospects, involving the Vice Provost and Student Affairs leadership as required, and developing and implementing fundraising strategies for qualification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospects for individual major gifts for the division.
- Research, write, edit, and oversee the preparation of persuasive annual giving and day of giving materials, solicitations, proposals, correspondence and other development-related communications as required.
- Create and implement donor relations and stewardship activities for the division and contribute to the strategic alumni engagement plan.
Physical Effort
Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
