Your Mission in Action

The Medical Assistant provides medical care to Unaccompanied Children (UC), including administering immunizations, ordering medications, conducting assessments, and following prescribed treatments in accordance with agency and regulatory standards.  



Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine health screenings, assess UC's medical needs, and report to the Medical Care Lead per agency standards 
  • Administer prescribed medication, coordinate medical appointments, and oversee UC’s nutritional and treatment needs 
  • Support and enforce infection-control policies and procedures 
  • Develop care plans based on assessments to ensure proper care during shifts 
  • Maintain medication files and inventory, order supplies as needed, and update accurate UC case files, including medical history, treatment plans, and observations, per agency standards. 
  • Complete insurance forms and paperwork related to treatment, placement, discharge, and medication administration 
  • Monitor UC’s response to treatment and report adverse reactions to the Medical Care Coordinator or Lead 
  • Collaborate with clinical and program teams for UC admissions, transfers, and discharges 
  • Assist with UC evacuation during emergencies or natural disasters 
  • Provide on-call services for medical emergencies 
  • Ensure UC receives high-quality care and the program meets its goals and objectives 
  • Assist in assessing and developing individualized service plans based on UC’s medical needs 
  • Perform other duties and projects assigned 



  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School diploma or GED 
    • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with one (1) year of relevant experience 
    • Bilingual (English and Spanish, based on service area) 
    • Must be 21 years of age or older per licensing requirements 
    • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and relationship management skills 
    • Ability to maintain professionalism and build trust with UCs, sponsors, and stakeholders 
    • Proficient in documentation, time management, and Microsoft Office 

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Two (2) years of CMA experience  
    • Experience working in pediatrics and with adolescents

    Physical Demands & Work Conditions
    • This position requires sitting and looking and using a computer for long periods of time 
    • Position works in a child facility and has constant exposure to children 
    • Position requires frequent standing, walking and time in units/cottages which are areas where children reside 
    • Lift, push, pull, move up to 125 lbs.
