Position Summary
Green Bank Observatory (GBO) enables leading edge research at radio wavelengths by offering telescope, facility and advanced instrumentation access to the astronomy community as well as to other basic and applied research communities. With radio astronomy as its foundation, the Green Bank Observatory is a world leader in advancing research, innovation, and education. The Observatory offers a wide range of programs and resources for students, teachers, and the general public, including tours, lectures, and online resources.
At the GBO we are seeking a Housekeeper/Foodhandler to clean rooms, apartments, and hallways in the Residence Hall, as well as to prepare and serve food and clean in both the cafeteria and cafe. This position is located on-site in Green Bank, WV.
What You Will be Doing:
Work Environment
Work is performed in both kitchen/cafeteria, cafe and hotel/resident hall environments. The employee is required to work a rotating schedule, which includes weekdays, weekday evenings, and weekend days.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to walk, climb stairs, talk, hear, taste, and smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The employee will work with power tools, such as a vacuum cleaner, carpet cleaner, and meat slicer. The employee will be exposed to dust; chemicals and solvents, such as those used in cleaning; fumes; and pesticides. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The selected candidate must successfully pass a post-offer, pre-employment/pre-placement drug screen. Failure to pass the screen will disqualify the candidate from employment consideration for a period of six months from the date of the results.

The starting salary/hourly rate of this position is $15.00 per hour.
