Position Summary
This position reports to the University Controller, within the Finance & Administration Department. The Financial Information System Technical Support Specialist performs the following duties:
  1. Oversees the Financial Information System (FIS) within the University Financial Services (UFS) team to ensure functionality and data integrity
  2. Provides tier-one troubleshooting FIS support and Hyland OnBase (OnBase) for both UFS and the campus community
  3. Provides the campus, training on policies and procedures for use of the FIS and OnBase system
  4. Provides documentation on the use of the FIS system
  5. Creates ad-hoc queries and reports as needed
  6. Interfaces with OIT on training, software, and system upgrades
  7. Coordinates the FIS module upgrades for the campus, including user acceptance testing
  8. Coordinates annual user access audit for campus financial systems
  9. Ongoing FIS Chart of Accounts maintenance via updates to chart elements, approval updates, terminations, etc.
  10. Process and update Signature Authorization and Organizational authorization table
The Financial Information System Technical Support Specialist will work with university administration, research administrators and a variety of accounting personnel across the University to provide technical training, consulting and support to the Portland State campus regarding the use of the University’s financial information system. This position will nurture a healthy, supportive atmosphere for fiscal and administrative operations at the University and create processes that serve students, faculty and staff while maintaining internal controls.


Minimum Qualifications from Classification
This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills of technology and information systems generally obtained through an AA degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified course work in applicable fields of study and at least one year of related work experience.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position
  • Experience with business process analysis and improvement.
  • Experience generating internal and external support documentation.
  • Basic project management skills.
  • Experience working with, collaborating, and supporting people from a diverse range of perspectives and backgrounds.
  • Ability to make recommendations to improve operations
  • Demonstrated basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with business software (e.g. MS Office Suite, Google Workplace)
  • Demonstrated excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service with a strong focus on customer support

Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic understanding of SQL
  • Experience working with integrated financial software; knowledge of Ellucian Banner Finance and/or other complex databases
  • Ability to train others on technologies and processes
  • Experience working on a business ERP system in at least two financial areas

The starting salary rate for this position will be between $3,952 and $4,742 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience, with an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon University System schools.
