Job Summary:
The Tooling Coordinator provides essential tooling setup, procurement, and process improvement support to maximize the efficiency of CNC machining operations. This role ensures optimal levels of safety, quality, productivity, and on-time delivery, contributing directly to internal and external customer satisfaction. The position collaborates with engineering, planning, and production teams and reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
Essential Functions:
• Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods by analyzing workflow, tooling requirements, and material utilization.
• Partner with planning and design staff to ensure product design and tooling meet production efficiency standards.
• Procure and manage tooling by working with vendors to determine product specifications, arrange purchases, and evaluate products against company and customer requirements.
• Collaborate with management, engineering, and production staff to align manufacturing capabilities with production schedules and business needs.
• Interpret part specifications, blueprints, tool orders, and shop data; troubleshoot issues related to material characteristics, tolerances, work holding, and machining processes.
• Apply algebraic and geometric formulas, as well as industry-standard tool engineering data, to develop tool configurations.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by participating in lean manufacturing projects and departmental improvement efforts.
• Uphold company mission, vision, and values while maintaining a positive, team-oriented work environment.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and organization, including 5S practices.
• Ensure adherence to company policies, external regulations, and safety requirements, including proper PPE usage.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Working knowledge of CNC programs and machine functionality.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, tool orders, and engineering specifications.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex tooling and machining challenges.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills across multiple departments and with external vendors.
• Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Education:
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Additional technical training or certifications in machining, CNC operation, or tooling preferred.
Experience:
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a tool crib or tool setup role within a CNC machining environment.
• Demonstrated experience supporting production through tooling setup, selection, and procurement.
Background Prerequisites:
  • Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks and controlled substance testing.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Associate degree or technical certification in manufacturing technology, machining, or related field.
• Experience with AS9100 and ISO14001 standards.
• Hands-on experience with CAD/CAM software and tool management systems.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

• Occasionally stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with arms.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Frequently engage in problem-solving tasks requiring close attention to detail.
• Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and standard shop hazards.
• PPE required in designated areas.
