The University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work invites applications for 2 open-rank tenure-stream positions. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The start date is fall 2026.
We are particularly interested in at least 1 new colleague bringing a focus on health, health care, health systems, and/or integrated health care (inclusive of mental health and substance use systems). We are closely linked with health systems and community-based organizations across the full range of health-related topics and seek a colleague who brings expertise and experience to contribute to our research, curriculum, and students’ educational opportunities. The most competitive candidates will bring a holistic, critical, and empirical lens to intervention, implementation, and/or services research focused on improving health care systems; expanding access, equity, and quality; and/or advancing the integration of behavioral health, physical health, and disability services. Specific focus is open (e.g., specific physical health conditions, substance use, mental health/illness, specific age/life course populations, and/or medically-underserved/vulnerable populations) and could include integration of behavioral health in physical health settings (such as FQHCs) or integration of physical health in primary behavioral health (such as CCBHCs). In addition to this focus, we welcome applicants who can strengthen our broader scholarly and educational efforts in mental health/illness, substance use, gerontology, gender-based violence, social movements and social change, and/or disability justice. Regardless of substantive focus, we seek colleagues who embrace and amplify our school’s commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, collaborative engagement, and collective liberation. And we expect all faculty members to bring a critical social work lens to research that is community-engaged, with real-world impact, focuses on addressing disparities and working towards justice, and recognizes systemic issues that underlie complex social problems.
The Pitt School of Social Work has an established record of excellence in research and education, strong community engagement and connections, and a rich network of colleagues with complementary and overlapping interests. The school includes the Center on Race and Social Problems (CRSP), the Child Welfare Education and Research Program (CWERP), and newly-formed faculty-led collaboratives in aging, human flourishing, caregiving, and critically evaluating the role of social work in society.
The school is consistently ranked among the top schools of social work in the nation and is known for its strong educational programs (BASW, MSW [COSA and Direct Practice], and Ph.D.), community-engaged work and partnerships, and collaborative relationships (across disciplines and with community partners), and its intellectually stimulating and supportive environment. We seek colleagues who are excited by the possibilities of transforming society and bring expertise and excellence in their substantive spheres to expand our capacity and impact.
REQUIREMENTS AND POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position requires an earned doctorate in social work or a related discipline, relevant experience and credentials, a strong commitment to teaching and research, and clear evidence of potential for high-impact scholarship. An MSW and two years of practice experience are preferred but not required. We seek a colleague who shares our focus on interdisciplinary, intersectional, and community-engaged scholarship and who is conducting cutting-edge research that can help transform knowledge, practice, policy, and social work education.
