The Department of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh announces a non-tenure track position at the Research Assistant Professor level. The position will be fully funded by federal research grants. We seek an individual with a background in developmental and health psychology and specific research interests in testing the efficacy of family-based preventive interventions to support maternal and young children’s health beginning during the perinatal period through toddlerhood. The candidate should also have a demonstrated track record of scholarly publications and an interest in conducting research working with economically challenged families and community agencies/staff that are typically involved with young children and families (e.g., obstetric and pediatric health agencies/providers, WIC). The candidate also should have experience in coordinating studies of families with young children (i.e., prenatally through 0-5). Substantively, research interests could include a range of interests, for example:?

  • Identifying components of a health-focused, family-based intervention that promote maternal and/or young children’s health (e.g., diet, sleep, physical activity)?

  • Identifying sociodemographic, family, and community factors that support maternal and young children’s health (e.g., maternal well-being, neighborhood safety)

  • Exploring collateral intervention effects of a family-based intervention to promote maternal and children’s health on maternal and children’s mental health, and for children, school readiness outcomes (e.g., language, social development).

  • The person filling this position will complement the current strengths of the Psychology Department and partnerships with other units, which include ongoing research in the Department of Psychiatry.
