Function/Duties of Position

The Faculty Dental Practice (FDP) Manager is responsible for the administrative management and clinical operations of the Faculty Dental Practice within the School of Dentistry. This position provides direct supervision to all support staff, including Dental Hygienists, Dental Assistants, Clinical Support Assistants, Dental Navigators, Treatment Coordinators, temporary employees (as needed) and PAS if indicated. They oversee recruitment, training, mentoring, evaluation, and performance management. The FDP Manager works closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Sr. Associate Director of Clinical Systems, FDP Board, and faculty practitioners on matters related to staffing, productivity, provider accountability, practice expansion, and strategic goals. The position plays a key role in creating a supportive, high-performing work environment that promotes accountability, professionalism, and patient-centered care.

 

The position provides oversight for practice communication, patient scheduling, provider scheduling, staff scheduling, patient status audits, axiUm electronic health record auditing, patient complaints and grievances, unusual occurrence reporting, policy and procedure audits, and regulatory and legislative compliance.

 

This position coordinates and collaborates with FDP Board , managers and personnel in Patient Support Services (PAS, OneTeam, Referrals, Managed Care, and Financial Management), interpreter services, infection prevention and control, safety, quality assurance and improvement, patient advocacy and Dental Informatics. The position coordinates and collaborates with personnel in the dental clinics in RLSB and at times, with hospital dental services. This position currently reports directly to the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Systems and indirectly to the FDP Board.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in management or other similar areas of study OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five or more years of dental office management experience, which includes management of staff, performance management, coaching, hiring and selection, workflow functions
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations within a dental setting (includes knowledge of the Oregon Dental Practice Act, OSHA, and infection control guidelines)
  • Ability to lead others, coach employees, build relationships with faculty and students
  • Knowledge of basic dental clinic functions and the multi-layered schedules (students, faculty, staff)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of Electronic Dental Records software and how it affects the clinic scheduling processes
  • Software skills to include Microsoft WORD and Excel. 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior training as a dental assistant or dental hygienist
  • Experience with a group dental practice including specialty providers
  • Experience with dental axiUm electronic health record and EPIC and EPIC Wisdom
  • Experience with unionized employee, esp. AFSCME
  • License to practice dental hygiene or certification as a dental assistant
