Overview

Job Title: Payroll Specialist

Job Location: McLean,Virginia



Responsibilities

Trace Systems is seeking a Payroll Specialist to support and grow within our payroll department. This individual will assist with the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness. They’ll work closely with finance and have the opportunity to take on more responsibility over time.

  • Support semi-monthly payroll processing for all employees, including salaries, allowances, garnishments, benefits deductions, and taxes.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, including employee time and attendance data.
  • Process payroll updates for new hires, terminations, salary changes, and adjustments.
  • Calculate and process allowances and premiums such as per diem, housing, hardship/danger pay, and COLA.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour regulations.
  • Prepare and provide documentation during audits.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Manage payroll deductions for employee benefits, including health insurance and retirement plans.
  • Respond to payroll and benefits inquiries from employees with professionalism and accuracy.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis of payroll data to support troubleshooting, compliance reviews, and management reporting.


Qualifications



  • Due to the nature of the work and contract requirements, US citizenship is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience with a Bachelors degree in accounting, business administration, human resources or related field; OR minimum of 5 years of related experience without a degree.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processes, payroll tax compliance, and internal controls.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel).
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint and ADP Workforce.
  • Experience in a government contracting environment.

Education:
