Job Function:
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is a stationary engineering position involving the operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, generating, ventilating, and refrigerating equipment. At some locations, the work may also involve maintenance and repairs of plumbing and electrical systems. The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of a Chief Engineer - Stationary, Stationary Engineer - First Class, or, in the case of Monroe Community College, the Director of Building Maintenance. Direct supervision may be exercised over the work of an Assistant Engineer-Stationary III or Assistant Engineer Stationary-Trainee. Does related work as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the principles and techniques involved in the operation of high and low pressure systems of heating and refrigeration; good knowledge of the operation and maintenance and emergency measures in event of breakdowns; skill in the use of hand tools and power tools associated with the trade; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to take proper safety precautions; record keeping ability; dependability; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Required Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must currently hold the Monroe County civil service title Assistant Engineer Stationary, Grade II, or be reachable on the current eligible list for this title, or meet the below minimum requirements for a provisional or temporary appointment, if offered: Graduation from high school or the possession of an equivalency diploma, plus two (2) years of full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in the operation and maintenance of high-pressure steam and refrigeration lines.
NOTE: Where education is lacking, experience in any of the following areas may be substituted on a year-for-year basis:
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a Second-class Stationary Engineer's license issued by the Examining Board of Stationary Engineers and Refrigerator Operators.
Depending on the position duties, candidates for employment with Monroe County Government will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Salary: $56,475.12 - $71,527.04
