Post Doctoral Associate (Karikari)
Med-Psychiatry - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (25005309)

The Biofluid Biomarker Laboratory, directed by Dr. Thomas Karikari in the School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh, invites applications for postdoctoral associates to begin September 2025 (negotiable). The initial appointment is for one year, from November 1st, 2025, through October 31st, 2026, with renewal possible.

The Biofluid Biomarker Laboratory is dedicated to advancing biomarker research for neurodegenerative diseases. In conjunction with the Pittsburgh Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC), we are particularly interested in developing blood-based biomarkers for cost-effective, non-invasive diagnosis and prognosis of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our dynamic team with a key responsibility in data analysis. Our lab generates large-scale datasets using state-of-the-art technologies, including ultra-sensitive immunoassays and mass spectrometry-based proteomics. We also collaborate with external partners to analyze extensive cohort datasets, providing a rich environment for innovative data-driven discovery. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and applying advanced statistical methods to uncover pathological changes in the brain associated with neurodegenerative diseases. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research with real-world clinical implications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform statistical analyses and develop novel analytic pipelines for high-dimensional biological data.

  • Integrate and interpret data from multiple sources, including proteomics and clinical cohorts.

  • Present research findings at internal meetings, national and international conferences, and workshops.

  • Contribute to manuscript preparation, grant writing, and progress reports.

  • Mentor and train graduate students, research assistants, and other lab members.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational biology, neuroscience, or a related field.

  • Strong programming skills in R, Python, MATLAB, or similar languages.

  • Experience with large-scale omics data analysis (e.g., proteomics, metabolomics).

  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

  • Prior experience in neurodegenerative disease research is a plus, but not required.

  • Documented records of productive and high-quality research in peer-reviewed publications.

  • Strong writing and communication skills

Applicants are kindly requested to submit their application packages, including curriculum vitae and a cover letter of their research interest, and the contact information of 3 referees to Dr. Thomas Karikari (karikari@pitt.edu).
