Laboratory Research Technician IV



Job Summary: The research group of Dr. Fatima Syed is seeking to hire a highly motivated individual to serve as a Research Specialist. This federally funded research group is part of the Center for Craniofacial Regeneration, School of Dental Medicine and focuses on stem cells and tissue engineering. The Research Specialist will be actively involved in executing experiments and data collection and training new lab members on basic lab techniques. This individual must have a strong background in mammalian cell isolation, basic wet laboratory techniques, histology, and microscopy. Experience working with rodents is required. Candidates for this position will have a strong work ethic, will be detailed, and able to work independently although proper supervision and training will be provided.

Job Duties: The Research Specialist will spend the majority of their time working on experiments and data acquisition. These experiments will include mammalian cell isolation and culture, histology (tissue sectioning and staining), immunostaining, microscopy, qPCR and ELISA. Experiments will also involve working with rodents. The incumbent will be responsible for analyzing and organizing data acquired. The Research Specialist will also be involved in maintaining basic laboratory functions including overseeing laboratory equipment, organizing supplies, generating and maintaining laboratory protocols, and maintaining laboratory dishware and autoclaving responsibilities. The Research Specialist will be involved in training new individuals joining the laboratory including staff, students, and fellows. This individual will also be involved in ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The Research Specialist will also be involved in individual meetings with the Principal Investigator and weekly meetings with the research group. The incumbent is expected to actively participate in research discussions and data presentations.

Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.

Physical Effort

Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
