The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Villanova University invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in advanced manufacturing. We seek outstanding candidates with demonstrated expertise in this research area.

We are particularly interested in candidates whose research focuses on advanced manufacturing of materials with broad applications. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: (1) Energy-related materials and devices, (2) Biomaterials and bio-mimetic materials, (3) Electronic and functional materials, and (4) A.I.-assisted materials design and manufacturing. The appointment begins in August 2026.

Villanova is a Carnegie-classified doctoral university. The Mechanical Engineering department has 24 full-time faculty members, more than 300 undergraduate students, and over 125 graduate students, including 50 Ph.D. students. Faculty in the department are internationally recognized for their research achievements. The department is home to several research centers, including the NSF I/UCRC in Energy-Smart Electronic Systems and the Villanova Center for Analytics of Dynamic Systems. Research in the department is poised for further growth with the recent completion of a 150,000 sq. ft. expansion to Drosdick Hall, the home of the College of Engineering.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include developing a vibrant funded research program, collaborating nationally and internationally and with faculty in our core strength area of advanced manufacturing and materials, mentoring doctoral, masters, and undergraduate research students, teaching and developing manufacturing and materials-related undergraduate and graduate courses, contributing to the modernization of the manufacturing curriculum, and engaging in impactful service.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required are a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, a proven ability for high quality research, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and innovation.
