About the Accounting Manager position:

Avalon’s Accounting Manager has an important role in the development and management of the company’s accounting policies and processes, accounting transactions, and the financial systems that support them.   Additionally, this role oversees financial and regulatory reporting, income tax planning and reporting, and our system of internal controls and management of the annual audit process. The Accounting Manager also is an important resource in the research and implementation of accounting policies and will prepare the company’s consolidated financial statements and related analyses.

This position is eligible for remote work, but regular business travel will be required, including Avalon's corporate office located in Tampa, Florida.  

Accounting Manager – Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and innovative thought to Avalon’s accounting department. 
  • Create strong working relationships with stakeholders across the organization. 
  • Develop, document, and maintain the system of internal controls to ensure integrity in accounting and reporting and protection of assets. 
  • Develop and manage revenue entry and projection models based on data analytics interfacing with the AVP, Corporate Accounting. 
  • Manage accounts payable and cash flow. 
  • Manage commercial banking relationships and manage financial reporting requirements and bank covenants. 
  • Oversee the periodic financial closing processes and ensure timely delivery of reports, related analyses, a monthly reporting package that includes full financial statements, comprehensive Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reporting, operational dashboard reporting, analysis of key business trends, actual-versus-budget variances, and comprehensive executive level explanations that enable timely decisions to be made. Additional quarterly reporting of the same caliber required for the Board of Directors and PE ownership 
  • Lead the annual financial audit and interaction with independent accountants. 
  • Manage the work of tax advisors in the planning, reporting, and payment of income and other taxes. 
  • Complete reporting required for regulatory authorities as well as ad-hoc data management requests, e.g., queries, reporting. 
  • Hire, train, develop, and lead accounting and finance staff as well as vendors and contractors in the performance of these responsibilities. 

Accounting Manager – Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. 
  • Advanced Excel Skills and working experience with Pivot Tables, Pivot Reporting, Advanced Formulas, Data Tables, Simulations, Solver, Data Power Query, Tables, Formatting, Conditional Formatting, Advanced Charting, VBA, Macros, using Excel Productively, Integrating Excel with other tools and optimizing Excel 
  • At least 5 years’ experience in accounting, financial reporting, auditing, and related functions, including experience with an independent accounting firm (mid, major, or big 4). 
  • Certified Public Accountant. 
  • Must be a clear and concise communicator able to break complex topics/processes into simple steps and document related procedures and policies effectively.   
  • Must be curious and not satisfied with surface answers. 
  • Must have current GAAP and recent pronouncement experience. 
  • Experience using NetSuite ERP or similar ERP system. 
  • Experience developing and implementing accounting processes, systems of internal controls, general ledger and financial reporting structures, accounting software, cash management functions, and related activities. 
  • Leadership of a small group of professional employees, including goal setting and performance reviews. 

Accounting Manager – Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in business, finance, or accounting. 
  • Healthcare, Health Plan and Lab Industry experience strongly preferred. 
  • Experience using Concur, Bill.com, Blackline and ADP. 
  • Prior work experience in an early-stage company preferred.
