The Custodial Supervisor proactively manages work performed by in-house custodians. The Supervisor is responsible for scheduling, prioritizing and assigning work, inspecting completed work and communicating with clients. The individual in this position assists in the management of the Custodial operations and communicates with other supervisors on day and night shifts. The Supervisor also mentors and trains custodians and handles union grievances when appropriate.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for assigning custodians to work duties and locations, and holding them accountable for work assignments.
- Responsible for touring and inspecting custodial work areas and correcting any deficiencies. Proactively communicates with clients regarding any issues in their areas.
- Mentors, trains and supervises custodians, in coordination with the Operations Manager. Keeps records of employee time and attendance using Kronos. Issues discipline IAW Union collective bargaining agreement and handles union grievances as appropriate. Inspects equipment to maintain proper working condition holding operator accountable for cleanliness and condition.
- Responsible for weekend coverage as per schedule.
- Responsible for inspection and shift reports.
- Responsible for reporting any facilities maintenance defects or issues that may occur during the shift.
- Responsible for promptly reporting any accidents to supervisors and reporting any safety hazards to Public Safety.
- Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in supervising custodians in a unionized environment is required.
- Technical knowledge of equipment, chemicals and cleaning procedures required.
- Participation in a registration program for career development in the environmental or custodial field desired.
- A valid Driver’s License is required with a good driving record and no traffic violations.
- Must be able to meet and maintain Villanova’s driving privileges as outlined by Villanova’s Risk Management’s Motor Vehicle Record Policy for drivers of University Vehicles.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as strong listening skills are required. The ability to effectively communicate across the University is critical.
- Computer literate in Microsoft Word and Excel and e-mail.
Preferred Qualifications:Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
- Tools, machinery and equipment used: Extractors, autoscrubbers, floor machines, vacuums, wet/dry vacuums, burnishers.
- Environmental conditions: position routinely encounter trash of all sorts, and have occasional contact with mold, vomit, blood and smoke damaged rooms
- Must be able to climb ladders, bend and reach and to lift up to 60 pounds.
- Required to have a personal cell phone and provide the contact number to all managers and co-workers so that they may reach you when you are out of the office during normal working hours and in case of emergency.
- May be required to work nights and weekends.

This position falls within salaried grade 12 and the range for this position is $56,800-59,900. The final salary will be determined with consideration of several factors including the selected candidate’s qualifications, department budget availability, market data, and internal equity.
