Develop and administer customs and trade compliance plans and processes to provide clearance of freight documentation through the relevant customs authorities, work with customers to guide and advise on customs regulation qualifications in line with business strategy and objectives, corporate guidelines and policies.

CDZ Intern position

  • Subject matter expert who applies advanced knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience
  • Manage projects / processes, working independently with limited supervision
  • Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex
    Execute customs and trade compliance plans and processes to optimize service and cost performance in the customs clearance activities
  • Contribute to planning and directing flow of air and surface traffic to/ from foreign destinations to ensure customs clearance is completed in a timely and efficient manner
  • Monitor shipped items, shipping validity dates and debits and duties/ tariffs at government institutions
  • Execute customs entries, categorize goods based on information provided by customers and undertake customs security filing
  • Close out post clearance modification, execute inbound and outbound documentation, archive customs documents and record customs shipment information and physical status
  • Calculate duties, tariffs, price conversions, weight and volume of merchandise exported/ imported to/ from foreign destinations
  • Impart guidance on pricing and margin, support on bids, RFQs and customer presentations
  • Resolve customer issues and appropriately resolve incidents such as escalations/ disputes raised by internal or external customers
  • Stay updated with latest regulation changes and achieve adherence to compliance standards, legal requirements and import/ export control legislation
  • Pursue activities for issuing and controlling import licenses, and processes and controls of the export area
  • Collaborate with counterparts in customs authorities and government bodies for running smooth operations and to meet regulatory compliance
  • Participate to develop and implement workflow models between central customs operations and transactional operations teams
  • Study and resolve issues in day-to-day delivery, and implement practices and quality standards for customs focusing on increasing effectiveness and efficiency, and controlling costs
  • Research, identify and obtain the permits, licenses, and certificates required for customs clearance and general customs formalities
  • Advice customers on legal (e.g. trade compliance - shipments to sanctioned countries) and customs topics

    Stakeholders:

  • May convince others to accept new concepts, practices, and approaches
  • Connect with and influence other specialist departments and 3rd parties e.g. external service providers
  • Build strong, trusting cross-functional relationships with DHL managers
  • Understand customer and key stakeholders interests and concerns and advise direct reports, customers and key stakeholders
  • Provide technical guidance to line managers and employees

    Management Responsibilities:

  • May direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programs
  • Individual contributor who may manage two or fewer employees
  • Coach and review the work of lower level professionals
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience/qualification
