Major Gift Officer, School of Law



The Division of Philanthropic & Alumni Engagement (PAE) at the University of Pittsburgh is dedicated to fostering meaningful relationships with donors, alumni, and stakeholders, supporting the University's mission in education, research, and healthcare. We invite you to become a pivotal part of our team as the Major Gift Officer, School of Law.

In this role, you will serve as the integral part within PAE's University Development department, reporting to the AVC, IGSC.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Cultivate and solicit major gifts from donors with the capacity to give $100,000 or more.

  • Build and maintain a diverse, sustainable portfolio of major gift prospects.

  • Initiate and manage substantive discussions with potential donors to assess capacity and interest.

  • Design and execute multi-dimensional cultivation strategies tailored to individual donors.

  • Develop and finalize gift agreements, including endowments and pledges.

  • Collaborate across university units including PAE, academic departments, Athletics, and others.

  • Implement stewardship strategies to ensure ongoing donor engagement and satisfaction.

  • Maintain accurate donor records in the PAE database system.

  • Willingness to travel at least 30% of the time to meet with donors and prospects.

  • Build long-term relationships based on donors’ interests, passions, and values.

  • Demonstrate a proven track record of successful individual gift solicitation and relationship management.

Job Summary

Plans, implements, and manages fundraising programs for assigned area of responsibility; develops proposals and coordinates fundraising efforts within the department; and identifies, cultivates, stewards, and solicits current and potential donors. Collaborates with executive leadership, leadership, and faculty on strategic initiatives and campaign management. Crafts major donor recognition collateral and recruits and leads volunteer solicitors.


Essential Functions
  • Plan, implement, and manage fundraising annual plan and campaign activities for school responsibility.
  • Develop proposals and coordinate fundraising efforts within the school

Physical Effort

Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Hiring Range: $80,000-$100,000 Annually
