Position Title: (Temporary) Part-time Accounting/Tax Specialist

**NOTE: This is a Remote Temporary Part-Time opportunity anticipated to end in end of 2025/early 2026.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Sales tax nexus research
  • Support Avalara risk assessment by gathering data on nexus, product taxability, and transaction volumes.
    • Assist with Avalara implementation tasks such as:
      • Mapping product codes to tax categories.
      • Reviewing and reconciling tax reports.
  • Request and collect sales tax exemption certificates from customers
  • Assist with preparation and filing of sales tax returns (or assist with data prep).
  • Support internal controls and process documentation for tax workflows.
  • Help with onboarding new states or jurisdictions into Avalara.

  • Self-motivated and capable of managing tasks independently while following established procedures.
  • Attention to detail in reviewing tax rates, exemption forms, and reconciling tax data.
  • Strong skills in Excel spreadsheets for data analysis, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Experience organizing and maintaining documents in SharePoint.
  • Accounting/tax knowledge; understanding of general ledger, accounts receivable/payable, and tax accruals.
  • Customer Service Skills: ability to request and follow up on exemption certificates professionally.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration; comfortable working with IT, finance, and operations teams during Avalara implementation.
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication for internal and external correspondence.
