Position Summary:
The Director of the Hiatt Center for Transformative Education is a visionary and strategic leader responsible for the overall direction, development, and implementation of programs and initiatives that promote transformative educational practices. This individual will cultivate a culture of innovation, collaboration, and equity, driving the Center's mission to reimagine and revolutionize education for the 21st century and beyond. The Director will build and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, secure funding, and ensure the Center's long-term sustainability and impact. The Director position carries a concurrent faculty appointment in the Education Department, with responsibilities for research, teaching, and mentoring in addition to administrative leadership of the Center.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Vision:
- Develop and articulate a compelling vision and strategic plan for the Center, aligning with Clark University's overall mission and goals.
- Lead the development and implementation of innovative educational programs, research initiatives, and professional development opportunities.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends and leading practices in transformative education that advances teaching, learning, and schooling through transformative approaches.
- Foster a culture of inquiry, experimentation, and continuous improvement within the Center.
- Promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of the Center's work.
Program Development & Management:
- Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of Center's high-quality programs.
- Oversee the evaluation of the Center's programs and measure their effectiveness and lead continuous improvement.
- Develop and manage budgets, resources, and operational plans for the Center.
- Recruit, supervise, and mentor Center staff, faculty, and fellows.
- Chair the Center's Advisory Committee, comprised of internal and external stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain effective systems for data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and institutional policies.
Partnership & Collaboration:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, and administrators.
- Develop and cultivate partnerships with external organizations, including schools, community groups, foundations, and corporations.
- Represent the Center at local, regional, and national conferences and events.
- Facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing among educators, researchers, and practitioners.
- Actively work to build a network of support for the Center.
Fundraising & Development:
- Work with University Advancement and University leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to secure financial resources for the Center.
- Identify and cultivate potential donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporations.
- Write and submit grant proposals and other fundraising materials.
- Manage donor relations and ensure proper stewardship of funds.
- Seek out and create revenue generating programs.
Research & Evaluation:
- Have an outstanding record of accomplishment in both research, practice, and scholarship as Center Director.
- Promote and support research on transformative educational practices.
- Develop and implement evaluation frameworks to assess the impact of Center programs.
- Disseminate research findings through publications, presentations, and other channels.
- Use data and evaluation results to inform program improvement and strategic planning.
Job Requirements:Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D. preferred) in education, educational leadership, or a related field.
- Significant experience in educational leadership, program development, and management.
- Experience working across disciplinary boundaries.
- Demonstrated commitment to transformative education, culturally responsive practices, and social justice.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective partnerships.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Successful track record of fundraising and grant writing.
- Experience with budget management and financial oversight.
- Experience with staff supervision and development.
- Visionary, strategic, and collaborative leadership style.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate others.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in higher education or research institutions.
- Experience with community engaged scholarship.
- Experience in pre-K - 16 schooling and educational policy.
