About the Position:
The Engineer position in Transmission Asset Management, New York, supports the overhead transmission line function including the development of asset condition projects, programs, and strategies as well as supports the Inspection and Maintenance programs and performs other various assignments. The position is integral to the strategic management of National Grid?s transmission assets and the development of the five-year work plan, and sanctioning of transmission overhead line projects.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Act as the conceptual phase (Step 4.1 and 4.2) project team lead for transmission projects including the development of needs cases, options, scope, design criteria, construction review, and data integration of deliverables.
Develop work plan for the New York Inspection and Maintenance Program.
Support the Transmission Line Inspection and Maintenance programs overall process by identifying yearly priorities, and to identify ways to make the programs more effective.
Provide technical support for Inspection and Maintenance specification and procedural documentation.
Perform cost and risk studies to optimize strategic asset replacement.
Develop prioritization list of asset replacement candidates based on condition and performance in conjunction with subject matter experts.
Develop technical options for managing equipment to its economic end of life.
Undertake asset health reviews, analysis of asset lifecycle costs, capital and maintenance work prioritization, and benchmarking activities.
Conduct site inspections, as necessary, to evaluate asset strategies.
Ensure asset data is captured correctly in the appropriate asset registers.
Design and develop implementation plans as well as modify and evaluate policies, strategies and programs of assets and asset systems to support Company objectives
Analyze policies, strategies, and programs that are in progress or completed to determine their effectiveness versus stated goals.
Recommend alternative engineering solutions to management to meet business needs.
Deliver on commitments and manage outside engineering services to accomplish the assigned work.
Monitor project timeliness and budgets.
Provide technical support to internal and external departments for the application, operation, and maintenance of the electric transmission.
Assist in the resolution of technical issues.
Develop long-range maintenance and asset replacement policies, strategies, and programs.
Develop cost estimates and lead the Conceptual Estimate through Steps 4.1 and 4.2 of the capital delivery process.
Work in a Project Management team environment.
Travel within the US National Grid service area will be required.
Perform engineering studies, analysis and investigations, under supervision, in order to recommend corrective action in problem areas, or to prevent future problems
Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to obtain and share information that will benefit National Grid.
Respond to information requests and other inquiries from regulatory agencies.
Knowledge & Experience Required:
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology from an ABET accredited engineering school.
Minimum of 5 years of related experience
Expert knowledge of transmission line systems and practices.
Knowledge of relevant industry practice, standards and legislation.
Knowledge of current trends within the industry and developments in legislation or regulation.
Knowledge of National Grid's business operations, company policies and practices.
Knowledge of division policies, processes and fields of work.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
