Basic Qualifications
The Strategy and Business Development Director position requires a Bachelor's degree in business management, business administration, or technical degree and a Master's degree plus a minimum of 15 years of demonstrated leadership.
Joint Services Officer (JSO) designation and experience is desired.
Army, Joint and Coalition Network (transport, application and information assurance) subject matter expertise is required.
Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Strategy and Business Development Director in the Customer Facing Organization. The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation?s fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
The overall responsibility of this position is assist or lead the development and execution of a Network strategy, senior leader engagements and messaging across all applicable lines of business (LoBs) aimed at capturing US DoD, federal government and international mission command network resources including transport, information assurance, cyber and electronic warfare and applications.
Associated duties:
Lead or participate in a team to develop and present strategic options and recommendations to company leadership;
Lead or participate in strategy development, synchronization, analysis and prioritization efforts to focus company offerings to improve Network effectiveness, lower cost, and increase delivery speed;
Coordinate and communicate strategy formulation efforts and products with internal Line of Business and external stakeholders;
Provide strategic direction and focus to influence IRAD investments, product roadmaps and development to maximize company strength?s while leveraging commercial industry investment in communications technologies;
Gather key data to ensure strategy is well informed and complete;
Provide independent analysis and recommendations for strategy opportunities, resources, and execution plans;
Conduct analysis and make recommendations for strategic partnerships and candidate acquisitions;
Develop and execute capture plans associated with strategic new business opportunities;
Develop and refine marketing, branding, and external messaging material; used to proliferate and raise brand awareness in support of new business identification and capture;
Facilitate contact and business relationships with other business units, Lines of Business and companies within GDMS and GD.
Development, maintenance, and tracking of Business Area strategic and technology plans (to include budgeting of resource dollars to support said plans).
Direct oversight and responsibility of the capture of strategically important opportunities; teaming discussions/approvals, upfront IRAD investment decisions, industry day attendance, cost/pricing strategy, vendor negotiations, customer contact and opportunity shaping
Tradeshow Strategy, Planning & Attendance: what to send, what to demonstrate, who to send, development of messaging, development of marketing materials, development of hardware/software demos, scheduling customer/vendor meetings, attend C4S planning meetings, attend shows
New Business Financial Strat Planning: work with the Director of Army Futures to identify and to properly capture new business opportunities that should be included in the 5-year strat plan
Assist in the creation and maintenance of business area capability briefings, development of marketing material (slick sheets, presentations), website content updates/validation, writing of articles/press releases
BD Funnel maintenance & management: scrubbing funnel on a regular basis, working with Lines of Business BD personnel, Director Army Futures and individual Capture Managers to determine what?s real, validation of dollar values and timelines
Opportunity Capture Management: lead the capture team on key opportunities through the capture process and color team reviews.
Building/maintaining strategic relationships with key partners/vendors (Cisco, Dell, NetApp, etc.)
Building/maintaining relationships with key customers
Review and dissemination of government budgets
Evaluating RFIs (should we respond); developing RFI response strategy, developing/submitting RFI
Contact and business relationships with other business areas, lines-of-business and companies within GDMS, IS&T and other GD Business units such as GDLS
Personnel management of a small team of direct reports; including mentorship and counseling.
PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:
20+ years of leadership and management experience in the DoD and Homeland Marketplace;
Demonstrated intimate working knowledge of government budget and acquisition process, with previous DoD experience required;
Demonstrated experience with NATO Military committee processes
Understanding of emerging Joint, Army, Navy, USAF, USMC and DHS Modernization approaches, organizations and leadership
Demonstrated experience with Jt/Combined C2.
Demonstrated experience with Joint certified real time data networks as they apply to Fires and Aviation Execution.
Proven current relationships with senior DOD and Homeland leaders and stakeholders;
Strong leadership, teambuilding, customer relationship skills;
Capable of developing and sharing a vision for achievement of objectives, delegating responsibility while being accountable, and must be able to influence others by persuasion;
Proven success identifying and meeting objectives and developing both short-term and long-term strategic plans for growth;
Ability to engage, motivate and lead staff and supporting organizations;
Job location is in the DC Metro area. Will be expected travel 25-50% to spend time at customer locations and at GDMS program/investment locations (Fair Lakes, VA; Taunton, MA; Scottsdale, AZ)
