Raytheon Company, Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Chief IT Strategist. The Chief IT Strategist engages key business partners and customers to define strategies that deliver innovative IT solutions and create strategic advantage for the Integrated Defense Systems business of Raytheon. The Chief IT Strategist assesses all aspects of industry, workforce, business process, organization and technology to develop strategic direction for the IT organization. The role requires self-motivation, excellent communication and collaboration skills, leadership presence and a demonstrated ability to work within a diverse IT team to effect transformative change. The Chief IT Strategist reports to the IDS IT Director of Strategy and Architecture. This role will require the person to obtain a US DOD Secret Clearance within one year of assignment, except in rare cases only US Citizens are eligible to obtain US DOD Clearances.

This position will be preferably based in either the Andover or Tewksbury, MA IDS Locations. However, the hiring manager will consider a highly qualified, exceptional applicant who would need to be located in another major Raytheon location in the US, but is willing and able to travel frequently to Andover/Tewksbury, MA for meetings with business and technical leads. Frequent travel throughout the US may be required as business needs dictate.

This role will offer capped budget relocation for the selected applicant if they are eligible per company policy, at an amount to be discussed at the appropriate time. The details of any relocation support provided will be at the discretion of the hiring manager.


  • Create IT strategies for key initiatives and pursuits
  • Lead continuous process for developing and accessing organizational goals
  • Assess business readiness to adopt key technologies, identifying significant impediments
  • Charter communications, training, studies, pilots and prototypes to remove structural impediments to strategy realization and value capture
  • Partner with IT PMO to define effective business cases for projects and drive strategy to action
  • Define and execute organizational change management plans
  • Lead business partner engagement process for strategy development & execution
  • Manage select improvement projects
  • Support occasional business travel required for partner and supplier engagements
Required Skills & Experience:
  • At least 10 years of IT and/or Engineering experience demonstrating progressively greater responsibility for organizational leadership, project management and business impact
  • Demonstrable knowledge of current aerospace trends and market conditions affecting the evolution of the IT discipline
  • 3 or more years of experience as a business analyst, business architect or similar role
  • Skilled in the analysis and documentation of value streams, business capabilities and business processes; able to capture and communicate current and to-be states
  • Develops effective plans and presentations for change that address internal (e.g. people, process and technology) and external (e.g. competition, regulation, suppliers) factors
  • Track record of developing successful business cases or project proposals for transformative IT and businesses capabilities that deliver value to multiple enterprise stakeholders
Desired Sills and Experience
  • 3 or more years of experience developing IT or other technology strategies for large enterprises
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills, in spoken, written, and graphical delivery scenarios, with the ability to express complex ideas in simple terms
  • Able to convey the business value and resulting positive outcomes of technical proposals and initiatives, and to work across organizational lines to affect change
  • Able to assess, correlate and summarize large quantities of information and related themes into a concise overview
  • Active US DOD Secret Clearance is preferred.

Education: Bachelors’ Degree in Technical Discipline (CSC, MIS, etc.). Due to the highly technical nature of this role, the hiring manager will not be able to consider applicable experience in lieu of a degree.
