About the Position:
National Grid is in search of entry level or experiencedRelay Technicians to work out of the Albany, New York headquarters.The position offers excellent opportunity forpromotion in the field depending on experience level. The level of experiencewill determine the grade and pay. The base pay ranges from $78,000 to $106,000depending on qualifications and experience level.
Install, test, maintain, andtroubleshoot all types of relays and associated protection and control circuitsin distribution, substation, and transmission systems.
Perform functional testing ofprotection and control systems.
Assist senior technicians in theInstallation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of power circuit breakers, power transformers, instrumenttransformers (i.e., current andpotential transformers) and auxiliary substation equipment.
Calibrate and testelectromechanical and microprocessor based protection and communication relays.
Obtain on the job training as wellas class room/lab training
Participate in and perform safety reviews/meetingsas required.
Follow and implement allapplicable company policies, procedures, and standards.
Support and promote Companymission and goals.
Operate various types of testequipment from different manufacturers.
Must have satisfactorily completed accredited courses in Mathematics, through Trigonometry, DC and AC circuits including Magnetism and Polyphase Theory, Basic Electrical and Mechanical diagrams, and Fundamental Solid State Electronics or successful completion of the equivalent agreed upon by Management & the Brotherhood.
Self motivated and able to learn on own.
Ability to work well with vendors, customers,and other employees.
Good written and oral skills.
Able to work overtime and respond to emergencycall outs.
NETA Certification is a plus
Must have satisfactorily demonstrated proficiency in relay work
Must pass validated aptitude test.
Must have AAS degree in Electrical Technology from an accredited school or equivalent training program.
OR must have an AOS Degree in Electrical Construction and Maintenance from an accredited school and 3 years field experience in the electric field, (i.e. line mechanic, stations maintenance mechanic, Customer Metering Services at B level or above, electrician, underground).
Completion of accredited course (ICS) will not be accepted as qualification for job progression.
Adept on the use of computers and able to manageand maintain computer software.
Adept at working with AC and DC electricalelementary drawings/blue prints.
General understanding of IEEE /ANSI devices andnumbering System.
