Description
Job Purpose:
To provide Transmission Line engineering and design services to the US transmission business that result in innovative, effective and efficient systems for National Grid.
Key Accountabilities:
Motivate, develop, and maintain a sizable technical team in order to inspire commitment and engagement and improve long term performance.
Provide technical guidance and oversee the review of engineering deliverables to support high quality work products.
Work with Transmission Construction to translate requirements and business objectives into well-defined engineering designs and specifications.
Work closely with Safety in order to identify and respond appropriately to any potential hazards, incidents or circumstances that impact the safety, well being and working environment of employees within the Transmission Line Engineering area and promote the philosophy of safe team working to these employees.
Lead and support process improvement initiatives based around engineering, design, and/or materials enabling us to work more effectively and efficiently.
Develop and implement plans to design work in a non-geographically based group to ensure effective use of resources and effective solutions for internal customers.
Work with other functional leaders in National Grid to drive consistency and sharing of best practice in the engineering and design of the Transmission Line system
Make authoritative technical engineering recommendations in order to provide innovative solutions which have a significant impact on business performance in the short and longer term.
Investigate the adoption of new and innovative technologies.
Qualifications
Knowledge & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor Degree in Civil or Electrical engineering. MBA/credits or equivalent are preferred. Professional engineering license.
Understands theory behind policies and processes and demonstrates the ability to challenge existing processes and ways of working e.g. taking action to avoid future crisis or create opportunities to improve existing practices.
Ability to collaborate with various other non-engineering departments
Expert in transmission line engineering. Expertise in PLS-CADD. Strong engineering background with a deep understanding of overhead transmission lines.
Requires a strong understanding of regulations relevant to area
Experience leading a technical team
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Capability Requirements:
Strong analytical and engineering skills
Ability to direct and motivate a team of engineers and designers.
Ability to communicate effectively up and down the chain-of-command.
