Electronic Technician III (Live Fire)

Position is full-time working with Life Cycle Contractor Support for the Warfighter FOCUS (WFF) program under the Warrior Training Alliance (WTA) at the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC). WTA brings to bear the full capabilities of many of the world’s best systems integration and engineering companies in the technical integration of live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) training support. The WFF JRTC is located at Fort Polk, in central Louisiana, approximately forty miles west of Alexandria, LA. WTA operations support the JRTC Mission: to provide realistic joint and combined arms training focused on developing soldiers, leaders, and units of the United States military for success on the 21st Century Battlefield.
Employee will perform as an Electronic Technician III under the supervision of a Live Fire Manager I and is directly responsible for the execution of all Live Fire support for the CTC mission at JRTC and Fort Polk under the Warfighter FOCUS (WFF) program. Electronic Technician III supervises two (2) Electronic Technician II’s and five (5) Electronic Technician I’s. Electronic Technician III’s will accompany firing unit Observer, Coach, Mentor (OCT) personnel throughout CTC Live Fire Exercises to provide on-ground reporting of target and pyrotechnic effects while simultaneously operating remote controlled target and simulator devices that Rotational Training Units (RTU) engage. Electronic Technician III will attend all Division rehearsals and Live Fires. Personnel will adhere to Raytheon and Live Fire Manager I directives, memoranda, policies, and procedures.


  • Responsible for a team of 11 employees comprised of Electronics Technician I’s, Electronic technician II’s, and General Maintenance Technicians whose primary work serves to support JRTC Live Fire rotations.
  • Responsible for the management of wireless networking and employment of 4G technologies.
  • Responsible for the deployment, assembly, configuration, testing and troubleshooting of digital technology targetry systems.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and field repair of digital technology targetry systems.
  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of mechanical vehicles and equipment assigned to the team.
  • Responsible for the transportation, installation, detonation, removal, and/or destruction of a variety of pyrotechnic devices in and on live fire buildings, targets, and target devices. Pyrotechnic devices include, but are not limited to, M21 explosive charges, trip flares, artillery simulators, tracer fire back devices, training grenades, simulated booby traps, explosive “burn barrels” and bullet strike simulators.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate equipment accountability assigned to the team.
  • Responsible for performing operational tests on range facilities scheduled for use at least two (2) hours prior to programmed time, final inspection will be completed thirty (30) minutes prior to the range start time.
  • Responsible for the safety of personnel on ranges during operation of live fire exercise. Setup and safely operate live fire ranges according to SDZ/MSD limitations and criteria.
  • Receive pyrotechnics from ASP personnel and install and operate them. Clear ranges of excess pyrotechnics and safely dispose of excess.
  • Prepares and maintains operation maps; maintains situation maps indicating location tactical deployment and emplacement of BLUFOR/OPFOR units.
  • Perform factory maintenance on systems as assigned
  • Prepare training and documentation packages for subsystem cross-training
  • Train other technicians on the use and operation of pyrotechnics, targetry, computers and other employed technologies.
  • Performs Quality Assurance inspections of work performed by employees.
  • Will be required to work in compliance with OSHA and Company Safety policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Able to work shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned to include manual labor.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.

Required Experience:

  • 7 years’ experience in electronics or technology maintenance.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience with military live fire operations on dynamic ranges.
  • Minimum of 5 years supervising small teams and maintenance of various machinery and electronics platforms.
Required Education:

  • High School diploma or GED.
Required Skills:

  • Valid state driver’s license and maintain post and company driving requirements.
  • Current/Active Secret Security clearance required
  • Employee must possess significant computer skills. Manipulation of software platforms to include Windows, McAfee and other proprietary solutions is required.
  • Employee must have thorough understanding of wireless networking and how to manipulate a peer-to-peer and client/server network.
  • Requires a comprehensive knowledge electronic theory and its application.
  • Apply basic electronic theory involved in engineering functions such as design, development, evaluation, testing, and installation and maintenance of electronic equipment.
  • Must be able to perform the responsibilities of the position in both an office and in extreme weather conditions. Maintain the real life situational positioning; i.e. low crawl, run, or lie in the prone position.
  • Knowledgeable of the capabilities, limitations, operations, design characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types and models of electronic equipment and systems.
  • Operate tractor, forklift, and other special use equipment as required (8,000 lb. capacity, 120” maximum lift).
Desired Experience:

  • 15 years military experience; must have knowledge of live fire intricacies and JRTC operational mission.
  • 10 years supervisory experience.
  • 7 years’ experience as an Electronics Technician or System Administrator.
Desired Education:

  • Associates degree or professional certification in Electronics, IT, or Business.
