  • The Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) Supply Chain (SC) Business Operations Process Re-engineering organization’s vision is to “transform SAS cross functional supply chain processes to drive a collaborative culture of speed, agility, reduced variability, and increased accountability through innovative solutions to grow the business and increase competitive advantage”. The team is seeking a Technical Writer/Instructional Designer with the skills necessary to compose clear and engaging information, capture and share lessons learned, develop playbook content, create white papers, and otherwise support the evolution of innovative knowledge sharing and learning practices. The successful candidate will play a key role in capturing, documenting and sharing innovative supply chain advancements discovered as part of business process re-engineering efforts, helping to drive a collaborative culture of speed, agility, reduced variability, and increased accountability through innovative solutions to grow the business and increase competitive advantage.

    Managing priorities within the strategic framework of the team’s transformational initiatives, the Technical Writer / Instructional Designer will need the creative ability to convert related information into storyboards, white papers, scripts, playbooks, videos, web-based resources, etc. while also leveraging a strong technical writing skill set to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment.

    This is a new, exciting, and evolving team and, as such, requires team members with the ability to perform a variety of related duties involving a blend of strategy/tactic, design/implementation, and big-picture/detail.

    Primary Responsibilities Include:
    • Work with various SC teams, process owners, leaders, and SMEs to gather, analyze, outline, and document information for the purpose of sharing experiences, concepts, and learnings that foster ongoing improvement and repeatability. Ensures that specialized topics are appropriately and accurately discussed and that finished work products meet established criteria.
    • Collaborates cross functionally to ensure content is published correctly and timely.
    • Develops a thorough understanding of related teams, audiences, and topics in order to determine the most effective way to present and deliver information for the greatest user comprehension and utilization.
    • Designs/creates supporting visuals, process maps, charts, presentations, graphics, videos, and illustrations that elaborate on or complement communications. Transform technical information into professionally written, engaging instruction.
    • Develops and/or manages online repositories and knowledge sharing sites (i.e. Rshare) and contributes to establishing, promoting, and growing a collaborative knowledge sharing culture within SAS Supply Chain.
    • Develops and implements a process for capturing and disseminating Frequently Asked Questions as a component of building a robust knowledge sharing environment.
    • Provides recommendations to improve the design, content, delivery, and usability of SC information in order to enhance the user experience. Champions alternative and complimentary communication vehicles to improve the knowledge sharing culture.

    Required Skills:
    • Minimum 8 years professional experience, preferably with solid knowledge of SC related program support, financial acumen and overall supply chain operations.
    • 2-5 years (min) experience developing written content with superior verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex topics in clear and easy-to-understand language. Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Experience collaborating and partnering with various subject matter experts and cross-functional teams.
    • Project management skills and ability to prioritize and sequence work in a fast-paced, high-change environment.
    • Visual and design skills to take knowledge transfer to the next level; ability to create imagery out of ideas and concepts and otherwise present facts in innovative and engaging ways.
    • Understanding of various content delivery channels and mechanisms (i.e. playbooks, videos, white papers, e-learning, micro-learning, etc.) and vision for utilizing, adapting, and evolving them to facility fast knowledge exchange and collaboration.
    • Ability to author concise, direct, and user-friendly content for just-in-time learning.
    • Proficiency with MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio.
    • Self-starter with strong organization and listening skills. Ability to easily adapt to changing priorities and guidance. Ability to work independently as well as to partner, influence, and lead effectively across all levels of the organization to achieve results.
    • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

    Desired Skills:
    • Experience with MS SharePoint / Rshare highly desired. Ability to build and maintain large site collections, define properties/securities/permissions, and use lists and libraries to manage key business information.
    • Familiarity with the use of metadata and tagging to enhance/improve search performance and the ability to discover relevant information quickly and from a wide variety of starting points.
    • Experience using Camtasia for screen recording; ability to create/edit video.
    • Familiarity with the principals of social learning, online communities, and the 70-20-10 learning model.
    • Experience creating, organizing, writing, and editing operational documentation and technical articles that facilitate knowledge transfer.
    • Knowledge and experience with supply chain

    Required Education:
    Bachelor’s Degree (BA or BS) supply chain, communications, business, information technology, management information systems, or similar related field. Master’s degree preferred.
