Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Information Technology Cloud Governance Lead to join our IT team. The selected candidate will work to define/refine a set of governance frameworks to ensure proper use and management of cloud services. Additionally this role will provide oversight, coordination, and guidance for GDMS’s actual use of external cloud services of any type. The Cloud Governance Lead supports the definition, formulation, and dissemination of policy, procedure, development and support processes to the GDMS organization on the use of external cloud services. Anticipated activities for this position include:
Partner with Cybersecurity, Application Development, Cloud, Governance, and Compliance teams to formulate and implement a strategy for cloud based security tailored to specific risks facing the GDMS.
Lead the development of a balanced cloud governance framework including process definition & refinement to include organizational alignment and the cloud service lifecycle
Provide oversight of external cloud usage to ensure compliance with society, regulatory, corporate and industry standards for cloud based security; escalating governance findings or issues as necessary
Continuously evaluate existing cloud security practices, define and measure security-related activities, and demonstrating improvements to the cloud programs within the organization.
Participate in the qualification of business requests to use cloud services
Support project, contractual and supply chain functions on creation, modification and management of agreements with External Service Providers for cloud services
Ensure appropriate monitoring is established and operational in each environment as needed
Support the use of External Cloud Services: training, use, management
Support the execution of audit and assessment activities for the external cloud environments
Track issues and remediation for cloud service providers
Work closely with GDMS Management (security, Import/Export, Human Resources, etc.…) to ensure only allowable data is placed in an external cloud environment
Lead/facilitate the Cloud Steering Committee as a subject matter expert in cloud governance leading practices including risk reporting, performance reporting, remediation, strategy, roadmap, and issues management
Develop and conduct cloud governance reporting for executive management to include reports on overall external cloud risk, performance, issues, strategy, compliance, legal, and finance
Education / Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in IT/IS, Computer Science or related field
Minimum 5 years of experience in secure application/platform development and cyber security
Minimum 3 years of project management, consulting, and/or application security analyst experience
2 years’ experience with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure Services or similar services
Amazon foundational certifications – Practitioner, Architect, Developer, Operations
Amazon Solutions Architect or Amazon Certified DevOps Engineer, CompTIA Cloud+ Certification, Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge (CCSK)
Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure
Strong working knowledge of
Management and monitoring of external cloud services
Usage costing for external cloud services
External Cloud Security Governance
Identity Access management concepts
Performance and security monitoring of External Cloud Environment
Risks inherent with the use of External Cloud Services
Possess a strong understanding of security protocols to be leveraged in a cloud environment
Understand the unique environments: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and how best to leverage them
Experience integrating external cloud services into an enterprise architecture
Experience working with Cloud Service providers to address SLA performance issues
Possess an understanding of how software tools can be used in an external cloud environment and how that potentially impacts asset management functions
In addition to the specific knowledge criteria listed above, candidates must exhibit strong communications skills (both written and verbal), an ability to constructively edit and revise documents to improve readability and clarity, capable of working well across a wide variety of technical staff, demonstrate creativity for problem solving and a strong attention to detail.
