Basic Qualifications
Associate's degree in related discipline or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Department of Defense secret security clearance is not required at time of hire but must be obtainable within 24 months of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an opening for an Engineering Technician. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation?s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
Engineering Technicians test, analyze and repair GDMS electronics, including circuit cards, mission computers, and other technologies, to support Engineering product development teams. This individual is also responsible for the planning, build out, calibration, installation and maintenance of the engineering organization?s lab equipment, components, devices and systems.
Engineering Technicians may also be asked to develop test specifications and procedures and are sometimes tasked with report preparation and documentation of technical issues and are expected to provide clear and precise technical documentation.
Support Hardware, Software and System development teams
Work directly with the development engineers to clearly communicate and work through technical issues
Duties include managing lab assets, using electronic lab test equipment to troubleshoot Hardware, Software and System issues
Follow industry and department policies and regulations to ensure GDMS services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices
Support engineering activities such as design, test, integrations, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electronic systems, experimental design circuitry, devices or specialized test equipment
Be open to new ideas and serve as a champion for change and acts to support change when directed by management
Construct, troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, test, diagnose, and maintain equipment, components, devices, or systems
Interpret complex engineering drawings, diagrams and schematics, and understand the necessary interfaces
Perform complex system level troubleshooting to component level
Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions
Some work may need to be done without established procedures
Work with associates in other departments and understands cross-functional relationships
May have (minimal) contact with customer
Analyze results and implement procedures for problems
May develop test specifications and procedures; prepare reports, documentation/specifications as required
Must have working experience with electronic test equipment to include: digital oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, multimeters, etc.
Must be able to assemble and document cables for engineering lab use
Attention to detail is critical
Good understanding of basic analog and digital electronics
Experience troubleshooting very high speed digital electronics
Solder training and experience to repair surface mount technology circuit card assemblies
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to excel in a team environment
Ability to work 9-hour days; overtime as requested
Lift up to 40 lbs
As a skilled specialist, completes tasks in resourceful and effective ways
Strong knowledge in specialized electrical engineering lab functions
Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions
Minimal supervision required
Strong proficiency in application and interpretation of complex specifications, requirements, standards and practices

Solder certification
Experience with EMI mitigation techniques
Experience with electronic environmental testing (temperature, shock, vibration)
Previous aerospace industry experience
