Job Description: The successful candidate will be responsible for building new pulsed power machines for prototypes and demonstrations. The technician will be required to build sub-assemblies and assemblies from engineering drawings. Such components and systems will include Marx, Tesla transformers, Linear Transformer Drivers, and high voltage power supplies. The technician will assist engineers and scientists in the testing of new machines and perform re-work of components as necessary. The candidate will also be required to learn and support our explosive pulsed power efforts. This will include fabrication of explosive generators and their associated pulse forming networks, handling, accounting, and managing the explosive materials. The technician will be involved with the explosive testing activities both on site and at external test ranges, when appropriate.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Skills and Education:
5+ years relevant experience in pulsed power fabrication or similar discipline
High School Diploma
Active Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
Trade school or technician certificate
Experience with high-voltage pulsed power systems and ability to work safely around high voltage (>100KV)
Experience with very high power RF systems
Experience with field testing
Ability to read mechanical drawings and electric schematics
Demonstrated capability to perform a broad, diverse range of technical tasks and/or very specific technical tasks in the engineering disciplines
Ability to provide hands on technical support during research and development phases through demonstration tests
Capable of giving detailed instructions and expressing technical concepts clearly
Ability to work with large and small teams, depending on circumstances
Ability to work with lifting fixtures and forklifts
Ability to work with hand tools such as drills, wrenches, hydraulic jacks, etc.
Ability to use, at least, manual lathes and milling machines and welding equipment
