Job Summary
The Carpenter Foreman is responsible for leading one or more carpentry crews in the successful maintenance of building woodwork and associated equipment.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
  • Obtain and review new work orders and service orders from Service Desk and assign work to crews
  • Read and interpret instructions and documentation
  • Plan and lay out work from blueprints, drawings, models, and verbal instructions by making standard shop computations, selecting necessary materials, and using a variety of carpenter hand tools, portable power tools, and standard measuring instruments
  • Ensure work is completed on time and the quality is in compliance with approved standard operating procedures and statements of work
  • Provide safety training to carpenter crews; ensure tools are utilized properly and maintained in safe, operational condition
  • Review carpentry-related estimates for new work and service work assigned to crew
  • Ensure work areas and shop are clean in accordance with requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret design drawings and specifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and use basic math skills to calculate accurate measurements of supplies needed
  • Knowledge of storing and preservation of military building materials
  • Ability to interact professionally with customers and trades people
  • Fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English
  • Additional knowledge/skills may be required by contract or assignment

Experience & Education

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in structural carpentry with at least two (2) years at the foreman level
  • Experience in rough framing, finish carpentry, metal stud framing, and/or drywall hanging
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • FN:
    • One (1) year trade school certification
  • Expat:
    • Well-rounded training usually acquired through formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience
  • Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
